BVM School win badminton tourney

LUDHIANA, Sept 29 — Bhartiya Vidya Mandir School won the Inter-School Badminton Tournament of the Ludhiana zone I in the under-19 boys' and under-17 girls' categories by defeating Sanatan Vidya Mandir School, held here recently.

In the under-19 boys' category, Manu of BVM defeated Sachin of SVM by scoring 15-13 and 15-9 points in singles. Harpreet and Manu of BVM defeated Sachin and Chetan of SVM by scoring 15-9 and 15-13 in doubles.

In the under-17 girls' category, Sonam of BVM defeated Kamakshi of Government Model Senior Secondary School, PAU, by scoring 11-5 and 11-7 points in singles. Shenam and Neha of BVM defeated Manpreet and Kamakshi of GMSSS by scoring 11-4 and 11-3 points in doubles

In the under-17 boys' category, GMSSS won the title as SVM team could not appear for the competition.

Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, and Bahadur Chand Munjal Arya Model School won the Inter-School Badminton Tournament of the Ludhiana zone II held here recently in the under-19 boys' and under-19 girls' category, respectively.

In the under-19 girls' category, Ruchika of BCM defeated Poonam by scoring 11-2 and 11-1, while Ratika defeated Khushwinder by scoring 11-1 and 11-1.

In the under-17 boys' category, Dashmesh Senior Secondary School won the title by defeating Teja Singh Sawtantar Senior Secondary School 2-0. Parsotam of DSSS defeated Sushil of TSSSSS by scoring 15-6 and 15-0 in singles. Parsotam and Nitin of DSSS defeated Sushil and Sahejpal by scoring 15-5 and 15-1 in doubles. In the under-17 girls' category no team appeared for the competition.

Sushil Bali tournament

A team for the Sushil Bali Cricket Tournament (under-14), organised by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), has been announced by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association. Mr Vinod Chitkara, general secretary, LDCA, said in a press note issued here on Friday that the team would play first match against Faridkot.

The members of the team are as follows: Tavish Gupta (captain), Karan Goel, Ashish Vinayak, Bharat Batra, Charandeep Singh, Munish Pal Singh, Dushyant Kohli, Sushyant Kohli, Chinton Sehgal, Rattan Bricher, Tarun Passi, Gaurav Saggi, Ashish Seghal, Puneet Garg, Yogesh, and Gagandeep Dhand. Vijay Singh will be the manager of the team.

LUDHIANA, Sept 29 — Teams of volleyball, basketball, gymnastics and athletics have been announced, here today for Punjab State Women Games by the District Sports Department. The members of the volleyball team are as follows: Rajmeet Kaur, Jasvir Kaur, Pawandeep Kaur, Amandeep Kaur, Jagdeep Kaur, Joginder Kaur, Babaljeet Kaur, Kiranjeet Kaur, Jagdeep Kaur, Harbant Kaur, Amrinder Kaur and Amandeep Kaur.

The members of basketball team are as follows: Mandeep Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Rajni, Harinder Kaur, Harmaninder Kaur, Harjinder Kaur, Meena, Rajni, Rekha, Meena Grewal, Bani Preet Kaur and Sarjit Kaur.

The Gymnastics selected for the state women games are Babita, Monika, Rekha, Sheweta, Amanpreet Sunita, Tanu, Meera, Sonia and Nisha.

In athletics events Virpal Kaur for 100mt hurdles, Sharmishta for 200mt, 400mt and 4x100mt and 4x400mt relay, Rajni for 300mt, Amandeep Kaur for short put and discus throw, Rajwinder Kaur for javelin throw, Sandeep Kaur for high jump, Bhupinder Kaur for long jump, Babita Kumari for 400mt hurdles and 4x400mt relay, Manjit Kaur for 800mt and 4x400mt relay and Akwinder Kaur for 400mt, 200mt, 4x100mt, and 4x400mt.

DC holds meeting on public issues

KHANNA, Sept 29 — The Deputy Commissioner today hold his first meeting with citizens of the city in the tehsil complex to listen to their problems. Municipal councillors, representatives of political parties and other prominent citizens were present at the meeting. Most of the speakers urged to the DC to solve the traffic problem, check encroachments and improve the condition of the main bus stand.

Mr Iqbal Singh, municipal councillor, Khanna, suggested to simplify the system to issue the domicile certificate. Mr Ashok Tewari, MC, demanded to solve the sewerage problem. He also demanded auction of octroi posts instead of inviting tenders for privatisation of octroi collection.

Mr J.S. Lottey, advocate, Mr Mulkh Raj, Mr Vijay Diamond, Mr Vijay Sharma, Mr Amrit Lall and Mr Paramjit Singh, all MCs, and Mr K.L. Sehgal were present at the meeting. Officials of the subdivision were also present.

Mr Sandhu assured the people to solve the problems on priority. He ordered the EO, Municipal Council, to deposit the amount required for sewerage system. He directed the SDM to inspect the Civil Hospital and submit a report within a week.
