Fellowship for Dr Dinesh Garg

LUDHIANA, Sept 27 — Dr Dinesh Garg, Consultant Ophthalmologist in the eye department of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital has been selected for the prestigious Retina Fellowship by Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow (Britain). He is the only consultant from northern India to have been selected for this prestigious fellowship under which he will be going to Britain to learn more sophisticated techniques of complicated retinal surgeries through which retina detachment could be corrected and foreign bodies could be removed more effectively.

His fellowship period will be from October 2 to July 31, 2001. During the ten months training programme, he will be attached to highly qualified doctors of ophthalmology in T I O (UK). Dr Dinesh Garg is an associate member of the World Cataract Surgeons Society, Singapore and a life member of the Oxford Ophthalmological Society, Oxford, UK. Earlier also he had been awarded with fellowships by other prestigious medical institutes.

Trials for games on Sept 29

LUDHIANA, Sept 27 — The trials for the selection of Ludhiana district teams for athletics, handball, kabaddi, volleyball, basketball and gymnastics for the Punjab State Games for Women would be conducted on September 29.

According to a press release issued by Mr S.L. Lotey, district sports officer the different venues for the trial are as follows: Government College for Women, Ludhiana for the trials of handball kabaddi, hockey and volleyball; R.S. Model Senior Secondary, Shastri Nagar School, Ludhiana for gymnastics; Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana for athletics and local Guru Nanak Dev Stadium for Basketball.

The state games of women are scheduled to be held from October 12 to 14 this year.
