Plan to start business English at 10+2 level

SAS NAGAR, Sept 17 — The CBSE is introducing various measures to improve the educational curriculum. Prof Ashok Ganguly, Chairman, CBSE, said this while presiding over the valedictory function of a two-day zonal conference of the Independent Schools Association at Shivalik Public School here today.

Prof Ganguly opined that the teachers of the affiliated schools to go in for reorientation programmes. Introduction of business English at the 10+2 level, curriculum development in science and social sciences and conducting evaluation workshop for the teachers were also on the anvil of the CBSE. He said the schools in the 21st century needed a scholastic approach to link the past, present and future.

Mr S.Balasubramaniam, Director, (Academics), CBSE, said promoting human excellence should be the prime motive of the schools. Mr Pawnesh Kumar, Controller of Examinations, CBSE, said the first parameter of quality education was to inculcate communicative skill in children.

During the two-day conference at least 10 resolutions were adopted. The main points being providing maximum educational facilities to the weaker sections of society as suggested by the Governor of Punjab, Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd), proper representation to the independent schools, to encourage more schools in the rural and urban areas, relaxation of norms and affiliation to be relaxed, advancing of soft loans for constructing infrastructure for schools, the condition of land by the respective board be relaxed, by-laws of the respective state to provide additional 5 to 10 per cent more area and setting up of autonomous board for the independent schools.

During the programme papers on 'Quest for quality excellence', 'Pursuit of excellence through building autonomy in education' and 'Dimensions of quality education' were presented. At the end of the conference it was resolved that such meets would be made a regular feature in rotation by different states to strengthen the movement of independent schools.Back

CHANDIGARH, Sept 17 — The Educationist, a voluntary organisation, held its award distribution ceremony for those who had conducted their Olympiads, workshops and seminars for the year, here today. Ruchi, Gauri win debate

CHANDIGARH, Sept 17 — Ruchi and Gauri from the local Guru Gobind Singh College (girls) won the debate organised by the Mastermind Institute here today.

The team of Pia and Alia from Bhavan Vidyalaya and Sacred Heart were the runners-up. Ruchi, Tanzila, Mehnaz and Shalini from GGS College (girls) were the winning team in the ad-mad contest. Rahul, Gaurav, Navdeep and Mandeep from the Physiotherapy College constituted the team which came second in this contest. The topic for the debate was’ Globalisation and liberalisation’. More than 15 teams from schools and colleges participated.

Food adulteration cases: 2 sentenced

CHANDIGARH, Sept 17 — Sat Narayan, a resident of Sector 26, was on Friday sentenced to two years’ rigours imprisonment by the UT Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr Sant Parkash in a food adulteration case. In another case of food adulteration, Bhagat Singh, a resident of Ropar district, was sentenced to six months’ rigorous imprisonment by the Chief Judicial Magistrate.Back

Magical notes by vocalist

CHANDIGARH, Sept 17 — Pt Laxman Krishnarao Pandit presented magical notes of music at Tagore Theatre here yesterday.

He started the musical evening with yaman kalyan. A blend of three compositions — vilambi, tilwada, tall and dhrut teen taal was presented. He rendered tappa with ease and fluidity. Dhrut ek taal tarana and nat kedar in madhyalaya teen taal were thrilling. Tappa kafi and thumri in dhani were also presented. He combined sound knowledge of ragas with efficient handling of rhythm. He ended with a bhajan by Kabir.Back
