Windy:
Hey! How come this sudden hello to teachers?
Cliparti:
Oh ho! Last week was Teacher’s Day. Remember September 5.
Windy:
Okay. How did you celebrate it?
Cliparti:
Fluppy was so keen to present his teacher some gift, which nobody else had
thought of. Further, he also did not want it to be heavy on his pocket.
Windy: So! What did you give?
Fluppy:
I spent 2 hours surfing the Net with Cliparti till I came across some useful
downloads for my teacher. Then on the Teacher’s Day I wrote them on the card
and gave the card to her.
Windy:
And she must have been so pleased to get it.
Fluppy:
You bet. She said she would keep it for a long time to come. It had some
valuable information and 2 hours of my perseverance.
Windy:
Tell me about these downloads.
Fluppy:
Sure. She got really impressed with http://www.inschoolwetrust.com. It is a
visual grade book that manages schedules, students, attendance, behaviour,
exams, grades and much more. It has the ability to send e-mail to all students
in the class. It generates and prints report automatically and also calculates
average grades.
Windy : Wow!
This will really make her task so much easier.
Cliparti :
No doubt, she was impressed by it.
Fluppy : The
other one was http://members.fortunecity.com/mailz/tester.html. It is a simple
but powerful program for generating tests. Tester does the testing and rates the
students. All that the teacher needs to do is to evaluate those answers, as that
can’t be done automatically. In return, as a nice gesture, she suggested me
two other downloads which she said would benefit me.
Windy : What
are they.
Fluppy :
I won’t tell you those as those are my return gifts.
Cliparti :
No Fluppy! Don’t be so silly. You must share them with our friends so that
they can also benefit from them.
Fluppy :
Okay. One was http://www.felton.clara.net/activitybook.htm. It is an educational
resource that grows with the child through pre-school, to primary and beyond. It
helps children with the fundamental skills they need throughout their education,
boosting their confidence in tests and general academic work. Each child’s
progress is maintained so that all children in the family can have their own
book tailored for their level.
Cliparti :
This seems good for us too.
Fluppy :
Yeah. The other was http://www.astware.al.ru/. that helps in expanding the
vocabulary and allows you to create your own tests fast.
Windy :
This seems good, not only for kids but for adult also.
Fluppy : The
other one was nice. It helps you remember everything! It is great for
dictations, new languages, tech terms and much more.
Cliparti :
I think everybody would find this download very useful. Most of the people,
children or adults do find memorising difficult.
Fluppy :
For maximising your reading ability, i.e. the speed, you can download
http://www.speedreading2000.com. It can be learnt in less than an hour and then
practiced for 2-minute exercise three times a week.
Windy :
Enough of this teaching and learning. I guess, since the Teacher’s Day is
over, we might as well devote some time to games.
Fluppy :
Well said.
Cliparti : No,
not before Fluppy tells me why is September 5 celebrated as Teacher’s Day.
Fluppy :
September 5 was the birthday of Dr. Radhakrishnan , who became the President of
India in 1962.
Cliparti : That’s
right. It was a tribute to Dr. Radhakrishnan’s close association with the
cause of teachers. Whatever position he held whether as the President or Vice
President or even as an Ambassador, he essentially remained a teacher all his
life.
Windy :
‘Bharat Ratna’ the highest award of the nation, was conferred on him in
1954, in recognition of his meritorious service to mankind.
Fluppy : Cliparti , now can we
talk out some games?
Cliparti :
Sure.
Windy :
Surf over www.indiagames.com. This has typical Indian flavour. There are games
like Brainvita, Gubbare, Tic-Tac Toe and FlyCatcher.
Cliparti :
Is it the same site where you can help our own Laloo, the politician, milk cows
and fill up the milk containers in shortest possible time, all the while
guarding against the policemen.
Windy :
You’ve got it right. There is another site at www. Nazaregames.com. It has
lots of games and puzzles. It also has housie on the Net, yes, I believe the
only Web housie.
Cliparti : Yeah,
guess so. But actually since thousands of new sites are being added to the Net
each day, you can never know if it is the only site of this kind or there are
others too.
Fluppy :
I had heard the world has shrunk but I believe the Web world is becoming wider
and wider and wider and ....
