Intel

Intel Corporation has announced two network devices that act as "traffic cops" to allocate network bandwidth and provide higher performance for e-businesses' most important customers, applications and services.

The new Intel NetStructure 7340 Traffic Shaper and 7370 Application Shaper are based on PacketWise technology from Packeteer, a pioneer in bandwidth management.

The new Intel NetStructure bandwidth management products give Internet Service Providers, Application Service Providers, Hosting Service Providers and self-hosted e-businesses added control over how bandwidth is used so that important applications do not lose network resources to non-critical traffic.

By monitoring and controlling network bandwidth usage, these products can improve network performance and enable more efficient use of a business connection to the Internet, eliminating the need for some customers to purchase additional bandwidth from their ISPs.

Asia Online

Asia Online Ltd, a pan-Asia-Pacific Internet business solutions provider, has acquired a majority interest in India domain Web services, a web development services company that provides e-commerce solutions, Net consultancy and portal management.

Asia Online assembles a mix of tools to help customers grow their businesses by providing benefit-based solutions, focused on four core Internet capabilities, Internet connectivity, Web hosting, professional services and third-party products sales.

eTrust

Computer Associates has launched eTrust, an integrated suite of solutions that offer an end to end security infrastructure, to protect complete ebusiness environments.

eTrust provides security infrastructure from browsers to mainframes. It is composed of an integrated set of proven tools covering every aspect of e-business value chain, protecting not only the systems and the networks, but also the data and application they enable.

It safeguards all mission-critical resources; offer simple, powerful protection right out of the box. eTrust solution has VPN, access control, user administration, single sign-on, encryption, malicious code and anti-virus protection, intrusion detection, firewall, certificate management option, policy compliance, authentication, authorization, alerting and auditing capabilities.

The solutions are built on an open, standards-based common security framework that delivers additional value through integration between all security offerings. It also offers interoperability and can be easily integrated into a policy-driven security management application.

Proview

National Semiconductor, the leading provider of silicon and total system solutions for information appliances, and Proview International Holding Limited, a leading computer manufacturer, have announced their partnership in co-developing iPAD, a new Internet access device based on National's Geode technology.

As its first entry into the emerging information appliance market, Proview's iPAD offers consumers an easy-to-use personal access device in the most cost-effective form factor.

Proview's iPAD is based on National Geode WebPAD platform and Proview's 15-inch cathode ray tube colour monitor. In addition to providing a high-quality display, iPAD combines all functions of an information appliance device, iPAD provides consumers with one-click access to full Internet experience, e-mail, chat, shopping, news, sports, entertainment, music and search engines.

Sun Microsystems

Sun Microsystems and Exodus Communications have announced that they are teaming to develop Exodus'[R] next generation storage offering.

Exodus intends to join hands with industry leading storage service providers to deliver Sun-based storage utility service. Exodus is one of the world's largest providers of Internet hosting and management services and offers network-managed solutions and professional technology services.

National Semiconductor

National Semiconductor has announced the market's first single chip base band ICs designed to operate in the two popular ISM band frequencies.

The SC14404 (handset) and SC14425 (base-station) are the first of a new family of highly integrated, next generation, single-chip digital cordless telephony baseband processors from national optimised for the US market.

The SC14404 is the market's first handset chip offering a programmable RF interface to fulfil the FCC requirements for 900MHz and 2.4GHz cordless voice and data applications, as well as the requirements fo the 1.9GHz DECT standard. The handset base band chip is the first in the market to include flash PROM (320kbyte) and EE function (4kbyte).

Other integrated features include two on-chip voltage regulators, DC-DC converter, battery management and direct micro/speaker control.

The SC14425 supports different version of CID and supports "hand-free" (in the base station). The integrated CR16 RISC controller handles the software protocols and high end MMI.
