Hepatitis B vaccination camp
From Our Correspondent

LUDHIANA, Sept 9 — The health education cell of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital organised a Hepatitis B vaccination camp at Dumra auditorium yesterday.

About 500 persons were vaccinated during the camp. The camp was third in the series of such camps launched by DMCH according to Dr S. C. Ahuja, Principal, DMC.

Vaccine charges were Rs 100 for adults and Rs 50 for children. Employees of DMCH were also vaccinated. Dr Rajoo Singh Chinna, convener, health education cell, said, “Hepatitis was as dangerous as AIDS but generally AIDS got more attention from film stars and the media, and hepatitis, which was more infectious than AIDS, was generally neglected. Unlike AIDS the prevention of Hepatitis B was possible through proper vaccination. It should be an endeavour of the doctors to get as many people vaccinated as possible”.

Taking precautions was necessary as this deadly disease spread through all secretions of body like tears, blood, urine, saliva, sweat and infectious blood transfusions. One should take proper precautions while using razors, needles, blades, scissors, knives and while going for ear piercing. Blood for transfusion should be taken from high-quality blood banks. Health workers who deal with such patients also had the risk of catching the virus and Hepatitis vaccine should be made mandatory for them and children, stressed Dr Chinna.Back
