PTC, a leading provider of collaborative product commerce solutions, announced a unique agreement with Cadence Design Systems to support electronics industry requirements for enterprise-wide Internet-based, collaborative management of product data.

The jointly developed Windchil-based solution will allow customers to access and manage printed circuit board data, created with Cadence Allegro and Concept HDL products through Windchill Release 5.0.

Bangalore-based SmartCC plans to launch a convenient payment solution for online transactions. This will be possible through SmartCC cards, which would be launched soon.

The SmartCC card is a pre-paid, stored-value card, which will be available even in small denominations like Rs 100 and can be brought at various retail points. The SmartCC cards are virtually as secure as cash and can be used at different e-commerce sites that the company is in the process of tying up.

Computer Associates International has warned e-business and home users of VBS/PLAN.A WORM, a new visual basic script-based e-mail worm that spreads by sending itself to all entries in a Microsoft Outlook address book. This worm is similar to the dangerous ILOVEYOU worm that recently attacked thousands of computers throughout the world. It has the potential to overload e-mail servers, which can result in denial of service.

Quantum

Quantum Corporation's hard disk drive group said it has begun shipments of Atlas 10K II 10,000 RPM disk drives to its major OEM customers. The Atlas 10K II family offers a 4.7ms seek time and up to 73.4 GB capacity, nearly doubling the available capacity. The Atlas 10K II drive is the optimum for Windows NT or UNIX enterprise and departmental servers as well as high-performance workstations running 2-D graphics, 3-D video and other high I/O applications.

SAS Institute India, wholly owned subsidiary of US-based SAS Institute Inc., has tied up with Satyam Computer Services, as a SAS Quality Partner for providing comprehensive data warehousing and data mining solutions to various industry verticals, with a focus on banking and telecommunications.

Satyam will be setting up a SAS Competency Centre in Chennai. The centre will assist corporates, especially telecom segment, in the implementation of SAS solutions and therefore benefit the end-user by contributing to a speedier wrap-up of data warehousing projects.
