Tribune News Service

CHANDIGARH, Sept 3 — At a meeting held here today, the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana unanimously resolved to call on the government for initiation of disciplinary action against a Kaithal advocate who allegedly stabbed a woman judicial officer in her chamber.

Condemning the act, all members, under the chairmanship of Mr H.S. Mattewal, held that the act portrayed the community in a poor light and measures to prevent any such happening in the future needed to be taken immediately. The members suggested that the case should immediately be entrusted to a disciplinary committee for taking suitable action as per rules laid down by the Bar Council.

The council also unanimously authorised the chairman to welcome the Law Minister who is due to visit the city on September 6. Another major resolution adopted was that efforts would be made to computerise the entire record of the Bar Council within the next six months. Meanwhile, all complaints against advocates regarding professional misconduct could not be taken up here today on account of paucity of time and have been deferred till the next meeting scheduled to be held in October.
