Centralised admissions demanded
Tribune News Service

CHANDIGARH, Aug 12 — The principal of the local GGDSD College, Sector 32, Dr A.C. Vaid, in a letter to the Panjab University Vice-Chancellor has requested for centralised admissions to the B.Com, BBA and BCA courses.

Dr Vaid said that in the absence of centralised admissions, candidates had to run from one institution to other in hope of a seat in these courses. A common merit list would avoid a lot of inconvenience to them. This was particularly relevant in view of the fact that these courses are witnessing a very high cut off percentage these day, Dr Vaid added.

Notice of motion issued in Beant assassination case
Tribune News Service

CHANDIGARH, Aug 12 — Taking up a petition filed by a motor mechanic who identified the alleged assassins of Punjab’s former Chief Minister Beant Singh, accusing the UT Administration of cheating him by not providing him with “adequate” job, a Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court here has issued notice of motion for September 26.

Claiming to have been offered the job of a home guard volunteer, Balwinder Singh, in his petition taken up by Mr Justice J.L. Gupta and Mr Justice K.S. Garewal, had earlier stated that he had to leave the same after joining it as he was getting just Rs 2100 per month even though he was earning about Rs 3500 as a mechanic.

Seeking directions to the Administration, Secretary of the Home Department and the Senior Superintendent of Police to provide him with a job, the petitioner had also stated that no action was taken on his written representations.

Going into the background, the petitioner had stated that the alleged killers were nailed down and booked for the ghastly crime because of the valuable assistance provided by him.

Balwinder Singh had added that he was promised a job, security and was given a reward of Rs 30,000 as he, without caring for the threat to his life at the hands of terrorists, had identified the alleged killers.

He had added that he had agreed to depose against the alleged militants only after he was promised the job of a constable. The petitioner had added that he could no more work as a mechanic due to the danger to his life.Back
