Kids Chat

Hello! Welcome to our world.

Let me first introduce you to my friends.

This is Cliparti Sweet

And this is Fluppy Little.

Hey, you didn't introduce yourself.

Oh yeah! I am Windi Wise.

What are we here to do? Is it a party?

Yes and No.

Can’t you ever give a straight answer to poor little Fluppy. We are going to a new world. A world of computers.

A new world? Where is it? How are we going?

Stupid! Cliparti, I told you not to get him along.

I am not stupid and can very well understand anything that you tell me. Provided, of course, you explain it to me.

You are too young to understand this.

No, nobody is too young or too old to understand computers.

Okay, okay, I will explain it to you. But only once. If you follow, fine. If you don’t, go ask your teacher.

Okay that’s fine by me.

Computers is a whole world in itself. It has everything and anything in it. Be it games, learning, fun, music, information and, as I said simply, EVERYTHING.

Really? Does it have my school poems?

Ha Ha! Yeah, sure. There is a portal called Pitara on the Internet for kids with a wide range of information and fun, including story books, magazines, folk tales, poems, world fact finder, etc. All this you can find at http://www.pitara.com.

What is this http & www?

Oh! Http is a protocol for Internet addresses. In real life you have an address where people needing you might approach you. Similarly, in the virtual world there exists an Internet address. If we desire to get some information we have to know where to knock. For example, www.pitara.com is one of the addresses for accessing this kind of information.

In a nutshell, to get connected to anything or anybody we just have to log on to that unique address.

You mean I can also have my own address. What if somebody might want to reach me?

Yeah, sure. As you are in the age group 3-13, you can have your own kiddy E-mail account at www.kiddonet.com.

Wow! That’s a cool way to impress my friends. But tell me what is e-mail?

E-mail is nothing but a message typed, sent or received through a network by using computers.

You know Fluppy, I have my own home page on www.kiddonet.com. Here I have put all information about myself, my family, pets, room and a lot more. I have even added music to it to make it more interesting.

A computer is such a lovely thing. I’ve already started to fall in love with it. Only if it could help me with my homework, too!

What would you say if I said yes.

Gosh! I would say, “I don’t believe you”

Well, computers do go beyond your imagination. There are many softwares that would teach you fundamentals, correct your answers, or even tell you where you went wrong. Even your spelling and grammar usage can be checked. So you can aspire to get an “A” grade now.

That’s SUPERB! If you tell me how to do it I’ll buy you a thank you card from Archies.

Don't worry, I’ll tell you. But you need not buy the card. You can create one yourself.

But I am not good at drawing.

Don’t worry , you can take the pictures from the Clipart gallery in Microsoft Winword and design the card in paintbrush. Without the fear of spilling colours, you can paint the picture as you want.

But then how will I give you the card? It will be inside the computer.

Little, then what you do is you give her your computer.

Hey Windi, you’ve again started teasing him. Fluppy, you can always take a printout of what you want by connecting your computer to a printer.

Okay, your card is due. I am going out to play now.

Go play in rain.

Oh no! Why does it have to rain every time I want to play football.

Don’t you know its July, honey? Rainy season.

Still you can play football and that, too, as a single player with the computer. I can download the football game from the Internet for you from www.lvsports.uni.cc for free. Do you want it?

Now, you are being a darling.

That should keep you quiet for a while.
