Bits & Bytes

  1.  Hardware: The basic structure of a computer comprising of all visible parts.

  2.  Software: The programmes loaded on a computer are termed as software.

  3. CPU: CPU stands for the central processing unit which is installed on the motherboard and is actually the real computer.

  4.  Hard disk: This is the storage device located inside the computer.

  5. Internet: A huge network  of computers owned by none; which is accessible 24 hours through Internet gateways.

  6. Modem: An external communication device which acts as a bridge between two computers using normal telephone lines.

  7. E-commerce: The buzz word for the current day world. E-commerce, or electronic commerce, simply means  buying and selling online through the electronic medium.

  8. E-mail: Electronic mail, or e-mail, is simply exchange of messages through the electronic medium, usually referred to as computers.

  9. Browser: A browser is a computer programme that facilitates viewing on the Internet. Thus, for viewing a site, browsers are required.

  10. Hotmail: Hotmail, owned by Microsoft, provides free e-mail service, to anybody who registers with this site.
