Consistency & guidance paved the way
Surbhi Bhalla

LUDHIANA, July 7 — City boys and girls have proved their mettle by topping in various exams. What took them to the top? As part of the continuing series, we ask another topper, the secret of his success.

Varun Vats, a DAV School student, has made his parents proud by securing the 26th rank in PMT, Punjab. He has secured 600 marks out of a total of 800, 180th position in the CBSE entrance test and has made it to Bharati Vidya Peeth, CMC, Vellore and has even cleared the AFMC written examination.

Dr Renu Vats, his mother, is highly elated and cannot find words to describe her happiness. She runs a local dispensary. His father, who is a radiologist, owns a scan centre. His father feels that it is Varun’s hard work which has enabled him to reach the top.

Varun studied four to five hours a day initially, but later increased the study time to eight to nine hours. His parents, too, had always been a source of encouragement, and his teachers gave him all the guidance he needed for the tests.

He had subscribed to a two-year tutorial course and also did a crash course from another private institute whose duration was 45 days. During the two years of preparation, Varun didn’t go anywhere. He was completely home-bound, attended no marriages and watched no movies. In the break, he would listen to songs only. Varun found his grandparents also of great help to him.

He considers his father to be his role model and, like him, wants to pursue a career in radiology. He is planning to join DMC, Ludhiana.

He feels that the performance of Ludhiana students was much better this year. He wants his fellow students to work hard and continue the trend of bagging top positions.
