From Our Correspondent

LUDHIANA, July 2 — One more sleepless night for students, as well as their parents, who had appeared in the Class X examinations of the Punjab School Education Board as the gazette of the results will be available here on Monday.

Thousands of students, whose results were declared at SAS Nagar on Friday, faced a long ordeal as the gazette was not available for the second day. They visited backshops, went to Punjabi Bhavan and then to their schools, but in vain.

According to Sandeep and his parents, the much-delayed results have created a lot of anxiety.

Navneet, another student, went to Chandigarh today to know the results.

Mr Jatinder Singh, father of a student says: “It’s only negligence and carelessness on the part of the board that the gazette has not reached Ludhiana today”.

According to information obtained from the board officer, Ludhiana students have done well. Sucheta Malik of St Bawra Public School, Lajpat Nagar, stood first in the district and got 11th position in the state. She secured 611 marks out of 650.

Loveleen Arora stood second in district and got 41st position in the state with 603 marks. Shally Jain bagged the third position and attained 45th position in state. Both these students were from R.S. Model Senior Secondary School.

Tribune News Service

LUDHIANA, July 2 — In a bid to introduce information technology (IT) courses in a big way in Punjab, the state government has decided to introduce two crash courses, of one year and six months, in several institutions in the state from the next academic session. These courses to be run in the evening and likely to be introduced in collaboration with Aptech.

This was disclosed by Mr Jagdish Singh Garcha, Minister Technical Education, here today. He said that the syllabi and courses of reading for these crash courses would be determined by the Punjab Technical Education Board. An MoU to this effect was likely to be signed next week.

The examination, Mr Garcha said, would be conducted both by Aptech as well as the board. The certificate or diploma would also be jointly awarded by the same organisations.

He said initially these courses were introduced in nearly 36 institutions in the state. A final shape to the whole programme was being given. Even though Ludhiana and Muktsar had been selected to pilot this project, it would be extended to the remaining districts also.

The Technical Education Minister further revealed that the U S A had expressed a desire to recruit 80,000 computer operators from India this year.

Ousted hospital director moves court
From Vimal Sumbly
Tribune News Service

LUDHIANA, July 2 — The ousted director of Satluj Hospital Limited, Dr Balvir Singh Sekhon, has lodged a complaint in a local court accusing the police of not taking any action in a case of cheating. Dr Sekhon had on June 21 filed a complaint with the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sarabha Nagar, against Dr Sarvesh Mathur, Dr T N Shadangi and Dr Ravinder Tah for cheating and fraud.

Dr Sekhon alleged that the “three accused having malafide and illegal intention to take over the control of the affairs of the company and its property and had planned a deep rooted conspiracy to remove him from the company by illegal means.

The complaint alleged that Dr Mathur, Dr Shadangi and Dr Tah tried to increase their shareholding in the company by allotting shares to themselves and their relatives without his (Dr Sekhon’s) knowledge and filed false and fabricated documents with the Registrar of Companies, (ROC) Jalandhar. The complaint added, that the three accused also tried to remove the petitioner from the directorship with the motive to control the management of the company by illegal means and malafide intention.

Dr Sekhon alleged that the three had furnished wrong information to the ROC where they had mentioned that he had resigned from the directorship of the company. He said that he had already clarified the same to the ROC. He alleged that the three accused had “committed offence under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code by way of cheating and dishonestly inducing company documents and by filing false documents”.

He alleged that the accused held a meeting of the board of directors without informing him in writing about the date of the meeting. He said they had fabricated a case against him for the cessation of his directorship and committed “criminal breach of trust” by concealing the company’s original and genuine documents and without compliance of legal and correct formalities.

Satluj Hospital Limited was set up on September 18,1995, by a group of doctors. Major shares of the company were distributed among seven shareholders with 100 shares each. Dr Sekhon had reportedly invested over 50 per cent at the time of the setting up of the company. It had been decided that the shares will distributed equally among all share holders, so Dr Sekhon was returned the extra money he had invested in the beginning. Later he was reportedly sidelined by the other directors and turned out of the company on the charges of not performing his duties and not cooperating with other directors.

Tension prevailed in the hospital complex yesterday when Dr Sekhon visited there in the afternoon. Some employees of the hospital allegedly tried to prevent his entry. However, Dr Sekhon managed to enter into his chamber and stayed there for some time. Dr Sekhon has been charging his other colleagues with breach of trust. He claimed that he had put in lot of efforts in making the hospital a success and had lost his daughter in an accident while returning from a trip to Ganganagar, where he had gone to seek doctors’ cooperation for the hospital.

Meanwhile, the staff of the hospital staged a demonstration against the alleged character assassination of some of the doctors by a lady employee. They alleged that the said employee was acting under the influence of someone else to damage the reputation of the hospital.Back
