Residents to be given
garbage disposal bags CHANDIGARH,
June 29 — With a view to improve sanitation in the city, the environment and city beautification committee of the local Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided that the residents should be provided bags for the disposal of the garbage. The issue was discussed at the meeting of the committee held here yesterday. It was proposed that the bags would be collected either by the staff of the MC or a contractor. Through another important decision, the committee urged the civic body to intensify the anti-encroachment drive and take action against the residents encroaching upon the government land again. Members wanted that the officials adopting discriminatory attitude while removing encroachments should be held accountable. For this purpose the committee wanted the civic body to develop seven model sub-sectors so that people were educated about which type of structures were allowed outside their houses. Expressing concern at the frequent complaints against sweepers the members desired that the area councillors should be given periodic reports regarding the work done by the sweepers in their respective areas. |
Rally by UT
employees CHANDIGARH, June 29 — Hundreds of UT employees today held a massive rally in support of their long-pending demands and against the anti-employee policies of the UT Administration. Addressing the rally, various speakers alleged that repeated representations to the Administration regarding the demands and against the privatisation move of the public sector units had fallen on deaf ears. Among the main demands of the employees are the regularisation of the services of the daily-wage employees, filling of vacant posts, promotions and appointments on compassionate grounds. |
