PU panel to study fee structure CHANDIGARH, June 29 — Panjab University proposal for fee hike from the forthcoming session received a major set-back today and gave a clear indication that hike, if any, will not be on the pattern of Guru Nanak Dev University. The university Syndicate meeting constituted a sub-committee today, comprising Dr R.D. Anand, Prof Charanjit Chawla, Mr H.R. Gandhar, Mr G.K. Chatrath and Mr H.S. Deol, to submit a report. The issue was postponed by the Vice-Chancellor before discussion, but Prof Charanjit Chawla said that related aspects should be discussed at least. He said the Senate on earlier occasion had not passed the issue in true light so it needed a rethought. The VC has also made a statement earlier that fee structure would imitate GND varsity which was called irrational. The issue has been postponed but the indication that the hike will not be to the level it was proposed is very clear. Dr R.D. Anand also spoke on the issue. The Syndicate cleared the budget. The already delayed subject did manage clearance but a special meeting between the VC, the FDO and the DPI (UT) has been called to round up the suspected totals. Mr H.R. Gandhar has been appointed as Honorary Director of the PU Regional Centre, Muktsar. Dr Ram Prakash said that the seat should be filled by a senior faculty member but there was general approval from the House. It was also pointed out that slight amendments be made in framing of the Memorandums of Understandings that the university was signing with external organisations in interest of its freedom. Transfer of Mr Sanjiv Tewari, Director, Public Relations, came up during the zero hour. The shifting of office was termed “unfair and illegal”. Prof Chawla and Dr Anand said that Mr Tewari was recruited with specific conditions. ‘Mr Tewari also enjoyed a very good reputation in field’, they said. The VC said that he had taken consent of Mr Tewari. When asked why Mr Tewari had proceeded on leave since then, Dr Puri said he would enquire into the matter. Members pointed out that terms and conditions of the MoUs should be reframed. ‘Several terms were not in interests of the university’, one member said. One interesting issue was granting masters degree facilities to colleges. “It has been seen that university faculty several times did not visit the colleges which demanded affiliation for masters degrees.”, Prof Chawla said. This was pointed out even by the Dean, College Development, Dr Deepak Manmohan. A Government of India (Law and Justice Ministry) proposal for change in Provident Fund conditions in salaries which was passed in 1997, was adopted by the varsity in 1998. The scheme still awaits implementation. Another key-issue was payment of lesser salaries to staff in several colleges in Ludhiana district. The university will introduce Bachelor in Technology course. There has been a lot of hue and cry by parents and students of BCA to upgrade the course. Delhi University has already done it. In PU, however, only toppers will be allowed the facility. The Syndicate postponed to discuss the issue under which Ph D would be made a compulsory condition for principals. As many as 33 candidates have been cleared for awarding the Ph D degrees. |

The album has nine tracks with amazing diversity. The music of Ek dana is composed by Daler Mehndi and directed by him and Ravi Pawar. Lyrics have been penned by Daler himself, Shahab Allahabadi, Meenu Singh, Ajay Jhingan, Satya Prakash and Rajan Raj. The title track Ek dana.... is a regular foot tapper. Another great song is ‘Boom Boom...’. The opening stanzas of the songs along with ‘hook lines’ and mukhdas are written and conceptualised by Daler Mehndi. The music videos of Ek dana have been directed by Bollywood’s famous dance director Farah Khan. She has directed a non-film album for the first time in her career. The title song Ek dana has been choreographed by Farah Khan and Daler jointly. Ek dana features a lively dance with Daler surrounded by kids. The second video ‘Boom Boom’ had been shot in the exotic locales of Mauritius. Super model, Viveka Babajee, features in this video. All in all, the album ‘Ek dana’ looks like another block-buster from Daler Mehndi and yet another milestone from the Tips company. |
