Beeline for submission of application forms
Tribune News Service

CHANDIGARH June 28 — The Sector 23 Government Model Senior Secondary School is buzzing with activity as the last date of submission of application forms for admission to senior secondary classes is approaching.

The last date is June 30 and the students are making a beeline to get their forms submitted before the last date. The school has received more than 4000 forms. The school has assigned 4 to 6 employees to streamline the process of submission. “I have not been able to keep my head straight since the morning. There is so much rush of students. Six people have been assigned to manage the rush. This will further pick up in the coming two days”, said an employee on duty in the school.

Abhishek, said he came in the morning to submit his form, thinking that it would be easier for him before the last date. “But in the morning hours itself, there were many students. So I came again to submit the forms after 12 noon,” he said.

The merit list will be displayed on the date of interview in Sector 23 GMSSS. It will also be displayed in GMSSS in Sectors 16, 18, 35, 40 and 46 on July 5. The rounds of interviews will start from July 6 in the Sector 23 GMSSS.

The students who have to reappear in one or two subjects are being sent back without taking their forms. The department has mentioned very clearly in the prospectus that reappear cases will not be given admission in any stream or school. They are entitled to get admission within ten days of clearing their supplementary test.

But this information in the prospectus is not enough for them. They bought the forms, filled these up, but could not get these submitted. Aman, from a Sector 37 school has got a compartment in social studies. Although he had read it in the prospectus that he would not be given admission as long as he did not clear the supplementary exam, he had come to submit his application form. “I was hoping against all hope that I would get a chance”, quipped he. “Why do they give us a supplementary if they are not going to give us admission? They should better mark us fail so that we are able to join the Class X again.” Neema also wasted one year since she could not clear her supplementary examinations. Now she is opting for arts.

Meanwhile, the prospectus continues to sell on the sale counter in the submission centre. An employee on the sale counter said around 100 to 150 forms were being sold everyday. No student was being given more than two forms, but the submission counter was accepting only one form from each student. He further said if the Punjab School Education Board declared its result, the sale of prospectus -cum-application form would shootup overnight.
