TAKE it from me, it was the grandmother of all parties! The first official stage appearance of writer-producer-director JP Dutta and likewise, his announcement about the completion of Refugee at one of the most magnificent audio release bashes hosted by HMV! The exclusive venue The club, in Andheri was literally spilling over with VIPs. It was purely, physically impossible to meet em all. No way! So I did the next best thing stuck around JP and wife Bindiya (except when J.Ps gun-toting security commandos gave me a deadly look!) Well, it paid off after all, every invitee had to come and congratulate them, see? Besides, Bindiya holds her own as the Costume & Creative Coordinator for JP Films, so nobody could dare to pass her by! |
The revellers included Amitabh Bachchan
with Jaya, Abhishek and Shweta; Randhir Kapoor with
beauteous Babita and Karisma and Kareena; Yash Chopra,
Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Tina Ambani with hubby Anil;
Subhash Ghai; Javed Akhtar; Sooraj Barjatya among other
biggies. Plus, of course, the cast of Refugee such
as Kulbhushan Kharbanda, a dimpling Reena Roy, sulking
Sudesh Berry, radiant Padmini Kapila, evocative Avtaar
Gill... and yes, Ashish Vidyarthi, who compered the whole
show so wonderfully. Refugee is a spectacular film. A magnificent of awesome dimensions, made all the more mesmerising by the magical cinematography by Basheer Ali. I only wish Anu Malik had varied his compositions instead of merely focusing on the orchestration and arrangement... Dotcom lovers Trust AR Rahman to come up with new zaps! Like his musical movie Dil Hi Dil Mein made basically for Internet viewing... and listening in. After all, the songs are the highlight... picturised like music videos and strung into a romantic story. But there are sniggers that the basic plot has been lifted from the Hollywood hit Youve Got Mail? and that its filmmaker could (surely) have found a more handsome hero than newcomer Kunal. Especially since doing her usual, winsome (and wiley) stuff opposite him is none other than Bollywoods sizzling heroine Sonali Bendre. Fatal fuss When it come to matters of inheriting property, I guess humanbeings are the same all over the world it brings out the beast in relatives! Which is why that elegant actress, Priya Rajvansh, died a gory death at the hands (literally) of her own "near and dear ones". The police say she was strangulated; insiders insist her throat was slit wide open! Dev Anand, who shared a close rapport with Priya, is extremely angry. "Priya deserved a more dignified death and certainly a better deal from God. She was always such a beautiful, articulate and gentle woman. Only I know the incredible level of love she gave to my elder brother, the late Chetan Anand as his live-in girlfriend for decades. I wish her murderers are really hanged to death." Numero Uno I tell you, its rather sickening how Govinda has managed to take the "No. 1" film titling to such ridiculous heights. As of now, every actor and actress wants to be "Something No. 1"! Rani No 1, Goonda No 1, Chaalu No 1, Tapori No 1, Sexy No 1, Lover No 1, Killer No 1, Don No 1, even a Bastard No 1, if you please! So why are people in the film industry raising such a hue n cry if Amrish Puri has accepted to play Badmash No 1, huh? Like he puts it, "I am THE villain of Hindi movies. And the film title suits me very aptly. Then where is the problem?" Rumour has it ...that Bobby Deol may soon take to directing films. Is it just to prove to brother Sunny, that he can be (much) better at the job? |
