Club adopts 21 kids CHANDIGARH, May 3 The State Bank of India ( Ladies Club) adopted 21 children of Government High School, Sector 24, at a function here today . The club provided a set of notebooks, text-books, uniform and shoes to these children. Geeta , a Class IX student, was awarded a cash scholarship for two sessions. Mrs Peeyush Sharma,
president of the club, said the club had been adopting
poor children for five years. She also highlighted the
other activities of the club. |
Bar association team
takes oath CHANDIGARH, May 3 Claiming the state was guilty of not complying with Court orders, recently elected president of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, Mr Gopal Krishan Chatrath a former Advocate-General of Punjab, yesterday stated that the pendency of cases was increasing due to its inaction. Talking to TNS soon after being administered the oath of office by the former Bar Association President Ms Daya Chaudhary, Mr. Chatrath added that in large number of the cases the petitioner was forced to file a contempt petition for execution of the court orders. He added that another reason behind the increasing pendency was the failure to fill vacancies of High Court judges. While the sanctioned posts were 40, only 24 judges were holding Court, he added. Giving details of his priorities as the Bar Association President, Mr Chatrath said better facilities for helping advocates to grow would be provided. He also asked for printing of the cause list by the High Court itself. We will also ensure that only those cases are mentioned in the list which can possibly be taken up. Not all cases. Others to be

Police
remand for one KHARAR, May 3 Mr Sanjay Agnihotri, Judicial Magistrate of Kharar, today, remanded Rakesh of SAS Nagar to the police custody till May 5. The person had been arrested by the SAS Nagar police on the charge of forcing her wife to commit suicide. Mr H.S. Rakkar, Assistant Public Prosecutor, who appeared on behalf of the state in the court today, told the court that the wife of the accused, tired of constant beating by him, sprinkled kerosene on herself and set herself on fire on April 10. She died on April 17 in the Sector 32 GMCH in Chandigarh. Before her death, she
recorded her statement before the Executive Magistrate
that she was being harassed by her husband. The police
arrested the accused on May 2 after registering a case
under Section 306 of the IPC against him. |
