60 get journalism diplomas

CHANDIGARH, April 11 — Sixty students were awarded diplomas at the annual convocation of the Dayanand Institute of Journalism and Management of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here today.

Jyoti Chauhan was awarded the prize of honour for excellence in English journalism . Arvind Bajpai won the honour in the Hindi section. Pankaj Jasrotia was awarded or topping the marketing section.

Tapas Kumar Dey won the honour in the personal management section. G.C. Lohani and Samta Singh were awarded special prizes.

Delivering the key-note address UT Advisor to the Administrator Vineeta Rai underlined the need to maintain links with the rich culture of our past.

"The form, the context and the application of knowledge can see changes but the quality of wisdom is everlasting. A good curriculum leads a student toward wisdom as well as knowledge," she said.

Rai appreciated the role of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in enabling persons who are already employed to upgrade their skills and widen their horizons.

Eminent Rotarian R.K.Saboo, welcomed the guests and spoke of the institution's history. BVB principal Col D.S.Cheema underlined the features of the course.

Although the institute is the Dayanand Institute of Communication and Management, the diploma is in the name of the Rajendra Prasad Institute of Communication and Management. Col Cheema explained that the Rajendra Prasad Institute was the core awardee unit to more than 70 affiliated institutes all over the country. Back


 

PU clarifies syllabus for partial re-exam

CHANDIGARH, April 12 —Examination for the partial re-examination of Panjab University in April\May will be based on the current syllabus, an official press release said here today.

The subjects for the partial re-examination (PRE) include English, Hindi, Geography and Public Administration for MA II. It was ' inadvertently mentioned in a university date-sheet dispatched to candidates that examination would be based on the old syllabus'.Back


 

School launches website

CHANDIGARH, April 12 — On the eve of the school's founder's day today, Saint Stephen's School launched its website, www.ststephanchandigarh.com. The attractive and informative site is primarily intended for teachers, students, old students and parents as well as anyone interested in sending their child to the school.

The site provides an insight into the school at a click of the mouse, including information about the school's architecture, the faculty, student body and day-to-day activities. A feature of the site is the "guess papers"; students of Classes X and XII of ICSE and ISCE boards will find these interesting.

The "Hall of Fame" highlights all those who have distinguished themselves in academics and sports. The Info Centre lists all secondary and junior teachers of the school: parents can mail a particular teacher by clicking on their name.

The site has been designed by Nitin Datta (an St Stephen's alumnus) and Sachin Bhatnagar. These youngsters have also designed www.campuscat.com/kargil, allowing visitors to write to their fauji bhais.Back

A reflection of couples’ strife

CHANDIGARH, April 12 — Vyaktigat, a play on conflict between the materialistic man and the modern woman, will be staged by the Mansarovar group at Tagore Theatre on April 15.

Written by Dr Lakshmi Narayan Lal, in the early 70s, this Hindi play reflects problems faced by couples everyday. The lead roles are played by Nimma Dandona and Vijay Dandodkar and Anjali Savita.

Discussing the play, Nimma, who has been active on the stage since her childhood in Kenya, said in the course of the play, the characters will pose queries to the audience, but the spectators are not expected to reply.

The play progresses through flashbacks, transporting the audience o the good and the bad days of the couple. The events are so fast paced that there will be no change in the sets or the dress of the actors.

Baisakhi Blast telecast

CHANDIGARH, April 12 — A special Baisakhi programme, Baisakhi Blast, will be screened on Lashkara Channel from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm on April 14. A similar show, Nachda Gaanda Mela, will be telecast on April 13 at 10.00 pm.

Prominent Punjabi artistes like Sardool Sikander, Sarabjit Cheema, Amar Noori, Surinder Chhinda, Kulbir, Sunita Bhatt, Gurjeet and Balkar Sidhu will take part..

The show, directed by Jassi Dhaliwal and Jarnail Basota, has been produced by Gurmel Sra.Back
