Eye donation on phone
Tribune News Service

CHANDIGARH, April 6 — People desirous of donating their eyes can now contact the Eye Bank Society, PGI, either on telephone Number 744589 or Mobile No: 98140 14464.

Honorary Secretary, Dr Ashok Sharma said that the eye donation call will go directly to the doctor on emergency duty, who will rush to the site and procure the eyes of the donor. He will try to do so immediately as the eyes are to be preferably removed six hours after a person’s death. Generally, most of the donors pledge their eyes in their lifetime and donations can also be taken if the relatives of the deceased inform the eye bank well in time.

Though the response over the last few years has been fairly good, the doctors associated with the Eye Bank Society have appealed to the people to come forward for this noble cause.
