Samvatsara 2057
There is light at the end of the tunnel
By Sansar Chandra

THE new Samvatsara — 2057 commences its journey on Tuesday at 11.40 p.m.. Since the turn of the day — vaar-pravritti, according to the norms governing the Vikrama Calendar goes by sunrise, Wednesday, April 5, 2000, falling on the first bright lunar day of Chaitra is designated as the new Samvatsara day, the solar date being Chaitra 23, 2057.

Dr Sansar ChandraThe spring Navaratra also coincides with the same day while the festival of Baisakhi falls on Thursday, April 13, 2000. This marks the start of the new solar year, 2057.

Last year the air was thick with panic because of the alarming predictions flashed by a host of soothsayers that the year in question was a "doom’s year".

No one can deny that the intrusion of trained personnel into the upper ranges of Kargil peaks during the last summer was not a limited mini war.

The name of the incoming Samvatsara — Vijaya stands for victory. Although victory brings the chances of war closer, the pointer attached to its phaladesha clarifies that in case the clash is not averted by the enemy, he is destined to meet a crushing defeat. Vijaya does not brook any half-way solution.

The next important influence is that of the king, prime minister and the cabinet headed by them. Both the top positions have stayed with benefic stars — Mercury and Jupiter. The majority of the key seats of power have been won by the benefics only. Jupiter, although a benefic planet, is in the company of evil stars in both the lunar and solar charts. So the king is likely to be ill-advised and made to proceed the wrong way. With the top dignitaries not seeing eye to eye, the law and order machinery could receive a serious jolt. The art of governance, viewed from all angles, shall be in a precarious condition and may surpass all previous records of inefficiency and callousness.

Another grave malediction which covers the horoscopes of the current year is the Mars-Saturn alliance. These stars did ally last year also but it was a visual alliance. The said stars during this year shall be joining each other physically, hence the aggression this time could be more atrocious and protracted than experienced earlier.

India’s natal chart also shows no promise. As we know, India broke the shackles of slavery under the shadow of Kal-Sarpa yoga. Saturn, being the sign-lord of India, is a key-player to see that the effects of this malady are fully felt.

Since the first planet to rule over India was Saturn and being combust it had become malevolent, the country had to face Partition and suffer untold misery.

Saturn’s mahadasha was upto July 1963 which was a period of great peril for all those who had to migrate leaving their hearth and home behind. Saturn’s last stroke was China’s aggression which left everybody shocked on almost all counts.

The same Saturn shall again become operative from May 15, but this time it will be the second-in-command. The main ruler is Venus, the Lord of the Ascendant. The Lord is always supposed to be at one’s beck and call but since Saturn has a role in the implementation of Kal-Sarpa Yoga, the possibility of an armed aggression with an ambitious neighbour could become acute.

The predominance of Saturn, an established hawk, and the subjugation of Jupiter, a confirmed dove, being sandwiched between the two malefic planets (Saturn and Mars) is a serious threat to the peace and tranquillity of the nation. This type of starry influence is not good for the party in power and the major Opposition as well. Both may lose their shine and may fail to muster support and keep their flock together, especially at the grassroot level. Their dependence on regional parties will become inevitable to retain power. This will enable the coalition culture, which has already struck its roots in Indian polity, to thrive in a big way.

Such influence is also cumbersome for the top leaders who may face stiff opposition from their own rank and file and remain discredited for their indecent or discriminatory acts. Uncertainty will dog their fortunes incessantly.

Some of the negative trends which have already besmeared the face of Indian polity will continue to dominate the scene. Corruption, as usual, will remain all-pervasive. Besides politicians, the crime-detecting central agencies will widen their net over many top ranking bureaucrats for misusing their authority and amassing wealth disproportionate to their legitimate sources. The other most vicious among these evils are fundamentalism, communalism, factionalism, parochialism, vote bank politics, criminality and targeted political killings.

Terrorism, which tops the list of all these malefactions put together, may broaden its area. The terrorist outfits will have ample resources and in some cases they may wangle unscrupulous governments and seek their patronage also to strike their targets at will. Those areas that have remained safe so far could also fall an easy prey to the hawkish designs of these marauders.

Among the clouds, Drona, being at the helm may bring sufficient rain but Aavarta, the next one, can play fast and loose. Similarly Kuleera the serpent, will be too glad to oblige us but Prithushrawa the second one, being sluggish could behave erratically. The choice of the Samvatsara to have jackal as the communicative media is also not very trustworthy but since the Samvatsara’s abode lies close to the washerman and Rohini has chosen the sea-shore for her stay, the deficiency caused by the reactionary forces would be met adequately. We can, therefore, expect our land to remain fertile and growth-oriented.

The Aardra-entry chart is another important factor to assess the impact of natural resources on the life of the people. How far can a particular year contribute to the welfare of mankind ? The area of trade, commerce, industry, agriculture, ecology climatology etc. fall under the purview of this chart.

The Lagna-Lord and the Rashi-Lord both in the sixth house and the sun surrounded by malefic planets reveal mixed results. Despite the agricultural produce touching a new peak, the inflationary trend will continue to alarm the common man. The government’s apathy will create more unrest and commotion in public mind. The rich will add to their affluence while the poor will be left to fend for themselves. The residents of big cities will groan under pollution and other environmental maladies. The spread of malaria, T.B. and other contagious diseases cannot be ruled out. Population shall grow fast, while the life span of the average man will also be on the push alongwith it. The field of science and technology will buzz with activity. New nations will be entering the nuclear club with India making its arsenal more potent.

Globally, while the direct and indirect foreign investment will grow substantially, exports will not show any significant increase with foreign elements making a healthy impact. Non-resident Indians will start reposing greater confidence in Indian markets and invest more liberally.

Those interested in the sale-purchase of stocks should be prepared to take uncertainties in their strides. The stability of the market will evaporate like mist in the air and the speculative tendencies will hold its ground more tightly than ever before. With the volatility of the market on the sharp rise, even the most genuine players of this line will have to keep their fingers crossed. The market for all intents and purposes, will follow the pattern of "the snakes and ladders" game and shall mostly dance to the tune of foreign investors, who hold the key to inflate or deflate it. For those who generally remain on the lookout to create quick money or earn tempting rates of interest on their investments are well advised to assess the credibility of the companies or bankers they link their fate with. It will be a wrong step if they put all the eggs in one basket.

In sum, the new Samvatsara is good for India. The tunnel looks dark but rest assured, there is certainly light at the end of it.
