Bonanza
for councillors CHANDIGARH, Jan 18 The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC) may be short of funds for undertaking various development works in the city, but when it comes to approving allowances for themselves, the councillors seem second to none. The meeting of the house yesterday passed a resolution for the grant of telephone allowance to the councillors at the rate of Rs 1,000 per month. The House passed the telephone allowance at the rate of Rs 1,000 from the date of assuming of office of councillors. This would mean that the 29 members would get the arrears amounting to Rs 37,000 each as they assumed office in December 1996. The MCC will have to shell out Rs 10.73 lakh on the the payment of arrears. It is a new year bonanza
for us, remarked one of the councillors. |
