Sub-jr kho-kho tourney concludes

CHANDIGARH, Jan 7 — Guru Harkishan Model School Club, Sector 38, and Dev Samaj Club, Sector 21, emerged winners in boys' and girls' sections, respectively, in the Chandigarh State Sub Junior Kho-kho Championship which concluded here today at Guru Harkishan Model School-38 here. The two-day meet was organised by the Chandigarh Kho-kho Association.

In the boys' final, GHMS-38 beat Government Model Senior School, Sector 37, by one point, while in the girls' final, Dev Samaj Club-21 beat City Club-23 by six points.

Prize-money sport
The Chandigarh Sports Department, in order to promote sport in the schools of the city, will organsie a prize-money tournament for boys and girls of local schools from January 19 to 22 in five disciplines — athletics, basketball, handball, hockey and volleyball — according to Mr J.P.S. Sidhu, Joint Director of the UT Sports Department.

The department will award Rs 400 to every member of the winning team and Rs 300 to the runners-up. Basketball and volleyball (under-17) matches will be held at the Sector 46 Sports Complex. Handball (boys u-17) matches will be held at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, and the girls' matches at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 8. Hockey (under-19) matches will be held at the Sector 42 Astroturf Hockey Stadium and athletics events (under-17) at the Sector 7 Sports Complex.

The entries should be approved by the District Education Officer.

Chess tourney
The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise the UT Chess Championship for under-18 boys and girls on January 15 and 16 at Chess Centre, Sports Complex, Sector 42, according to Mr Vipnesh Bhardwaj, Secretary of the association. The team for the National Chess Championship to be held at Jamshedpur in April will also be selected during this meet.

Entries close with Mr Karan Angdui, 1341-B, Sector 41-B.

UT team
The Chandigarh Kho-kho Association has selected a 24-member team, comprising 12 men and 12 women to represent the UT at the North Zone Kho-kho Championships to be held at Barabanki (UP) from January 10 to 12, according to a press note of the association.

The team is as follows: Men — Satpal, Madan, Jaswinder and Ajay (DAV-10), Rajesh, Harjot and Surinder (SD School-32), Vinod and Santosh (SGGSS-35), Harman (GCM-11), Sarabjit and Deepak.

Women — Meena Rawat (captain), Meenu, Pooja (Khalsa College for Women-26), Gurpeeet Kaur and Anu (Dev Samaj College for Women-45), Kiran, Renu and Parvinder Pal Kaur (MCM College-36), Champa (SGGSS-35), Nandni (ISDSSS-21), Kamaljit Kaur and Rakhwinder Kaur (GN Khalsa School-30).
