Dilip Kumar’s rally disrupted
NASIK, Sept 1 (PTI) — Three persons were injured in a stampede at an election meeting of cine star Dilip Kumar at Shirpur in Dhule district last night after the police lathi-charged the crowd which, irked over his late arrival, pelted stones and sandals. As soon as Dilip Kumar started addressing the well-attended meeting to seek vote for Congress candidate Amarishbhai Rasiklal Patel contesting from the Shirpur Assembly constituency, people started throwing stones and sandals, prompting the police to resort to a lathi charge, the police said. A woman, an elderly man and a child were injured in the ensuing stampede following the lathi charge, the police added.

12 dead in landslip
IMPHAL, Sept 1 (UNI) — At least 12 persons, mostly relatives of jawans of the Manipur Rifles, were killed in a landslide at Khongarong early today, the police said. The landslide, triggered by heavy rain, hit the family line of the battalion headquarters of the 5th Manipur Rifles of Tamenglong district at around 3 a.m. The police, quoting a report from Tamenglong, about 140 km from here, said a hill slope slided and hit the family quarters when the occupants were asleep. Most of the quarters were either damaged or destroyed. Some persons were still missing, the report added.

Gunmen kill 14
MOGADISHU, Sep 1 (Reuters) — At least 14 persons were killed and nearly 20 others wounded when gunmen ambushed a bus and a truck in Mogadishu, witnesses said. The bus was carrying about 65 persons to villages north of Mogadishu when the gunmen attacked yesterday near the capital’s livestock market. Armed guards on the bus returned the fire but were soon outnumbered by the attackers, and fled for their lives. Militia sources said the bus might have been stolen in revenge for the theft of one of the gunmen’s vehicles earlier this week.

CE’s house raided
JABALPUR, Sept 1 (UNI) — The special police establishment of Madhya Pradesh Lok Ayukta raided the house of a Chief Engineer (CE) of the state electricity board and seized unnamed property, cash and jewellery worth Rs 70 lakh. According to official sources, the Lok Ayukta police team simultaneously raided the residence of Mr M. Moinuzuddin at Jabalpur and a hotel-cum-resort situated at Kanha tourist place in Mandla district. The Chief Engineer (CE), Mr Moinuzuddin complained of chest pain immediately after the Lok Ayukta official served him notice and was admitted to intensive care unit of the MPEB hospital.

Cong leader killed
BERHAMPUR, Sept 1 (PTI) — Congress leader and chairman of the Aska Notified Area Council (NAC) Saheb Parida was hacked to death at Aska, about 40 km from here, today, police sources said here. Thirtyeight-year-old Parida, a nephew of former minister Raghab Parida, was walking in a funeral procession when he was attacked by a group of armed persons. They hacked him with sharp weapons causing his death even as those accompanying the procession ran for their life.

5 undertrials escape
NAWADA (Bihar), Sept 1 (PTI) — Five undertrials charged with crimes ranging from murder, loot and dacoity escaped from the Nawada district jail after scaling the wall last night, the police said today. A case was lodged with the Nawada town police station by Jail Superintendent on Wednesday, the police said. District SP Vimlesh Sinha did not rule out the involvement of jail staff in the escape.
