ABOHAR
Wife killed: Birma Devi (40) was hacked to death allegedly by her husband Hanuman Dass at Dangarkhera village near here on Friday, police sources said. According to a report lodged by Khiali Ram, his brother Hanuman Dass had suspicions about his wife having illicit relations. A case has been registered.

LUDHIANA
Robbery cases solved:
With the arrest of Mohammad Nadin and Ganesh Bahadur, the police claims to have solved two cases of robbery. Eight bundles of cycle rims and 50 pieces of cycle carriers were recovered from Mohammad Nadin. Ganesh Bahadur was arrested in a case involving the theft of a scooter, which has been recovered.

MOGA
Crackers banned:
The District Magistrate, Mr Kanwalbir Singh Sidhu, has banned the storage and sale of crackers and other explosive material in the district. However, the sale of ‘phuljhari and anar’ has been exempted from the ban. He has also banned the use of Army dress by the civilians and said action would be taken against those violating the orders.

NAWANSHAHR
Certified seeds:
The state Agriculture Minister, Mr Ajit Singh Kohar, has said the government has made all arrangements for the proper sowing of wheat, oil seeds and pulses in the state. Presiding over a district-level farmers' training camp, he said certified seeds, fertilisers and sprays had been arranged in abundance.

PATIALA
Girl injured:
Gurpreet Kaur (17) of Mohindra College was seriously injured when the two-wheeler she was riding collided with a car near the college on Friday. She was admitted to Rajindra Hospital.

PATHANKOT
Eye camp:
A six-day free eye camp was organised on Thursday at Gurdwara Model Town. As many as 800 patients were examined by a local team of doctors. Medicines, food and spectacles were given to them free of cost.

PHILLAUR
Money snatched:
Two scooter-borne armed youths snatched Rs 60,000 from Surin Singh at gunpoint at Bilga village on Friday. The police said the miscreants escaped after committing the crime. A case has been registered.

Inaugurated: The general bus stand, built at a cost of Rs 30 lakh, was inaugurated by the Punjab Social Welfare Minister, Mr Sarwan Singh, on Saturday. Mr Jarnail Singh Samra, president of the nagar council, Mr Prem Chand, SDM, Mr Sukhwinder Paul Singh, Director, Local Bodies, and Upinderjit Singh Ghumman, DSP, also addressed the gathering on the occasion.top

Condemned: The Executive Committee of DAV College Teachers Union on Saturday condemned the circular issued by the Panjab University authorities on curbing academic freedom of university teachers. It also decided to observe a two-period strike on Wednesday to get pending issues resolved.

Celebrated: Rashtriya Sankalp Day was celebrated at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 33, on Saturday. Students presented a cultural programme.

KHARAR
Bill defaulters: The Municipal Committee has asked defaulters of water supply and sewer bills to make the full payment immediately. According to a public announcement on Friday, all such persons have been warned that their connections will be discontinued if they fail to pay.

Banned: The District Administration has banned the manufacture, storage and sale of big crackers till November 11 under Section 144 of the CrPC.

Camp: The local Lions Club will organise a free camp at Khalsa Senior Secondary School on Sunday to detect patients of diabetes and advise them on avoiding and controlling the disease.top

AMBALA
Health camp:
The local Ayurveda Department and the NC Memorial Charitable Trust will organise a free health camp in Panjokhra village on Monday, on the occasion of Haryana Day. The camp will be inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner.

Crackers' sale ban: The sale of crackers in the district has been banned by the District Magistrate. However, the licensees are exempt from this ban. The administration has fixed some criteria for shopkeepers in the city, cantonment and Naraingarh to sell crackers.

Inaugurated: Mr S.P. Purwan, Adviser (Finance), Telecom Commission, inaugurated the intelligent network service here on Friday. Mr N.K. Mangla, CGMT, Haryana, said two types of service — virtual card calling services and free phone services — would be available to the subscribers of the Ambala telecom district. VCC card holders could make local, STD and ISD calls from any phone and the call would be charged to the card account number and not the phone from which the call is made. The FPH service, useful for business promotion, would not be charged to the calling party.

SIRSA
Crushed:
Paramjeet Singh (34), a truck driver, was run over by a truck in Rania town, 20 km from here, on Thursday. He was cremated after a post-mortem.

BILASPUR
Seized:
Mr Nagesh Guleria, Divisional Forest Officer, on Friday impounded a truck (HP-24-4111) and seized 20 logs of khair wood which were being smuggled out of the state.

Health clinic: A "mental health clinic" has started functioning in the district hospital here. Dr R.S. Dhatwalia, psychiatrist, visits the hospital every Saturday. The Chief Medical Officer, Dr M.L. Mahajan, said here on Friday that now patients with mental illness would not have to go to Shimla or Mandi for treatment.

SOLAN
Body recovered:
The body of Paras Ram (43) was recovered from an irrigation tank near Katal village in Ram Shahar sub-tehsil of the district on Friday. According to the police, Paras Ram appeared to have died due to drowning.

MANALI
Vaccination camp: The local Rotary Club organised a hepatitis-B vaccination camp here on Friday. Mr A.L. Sharma, Subdivisional Magistrate, inaugurated the camp. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sharma urged non-government organisations to come forward to create awareness among the masses regarding hepatitis-B vaccination. According to Mr Rakesh Mehta, president of the club, as many as 1,200 persons were given hepatitis-B injections.
