Yeltsin ill
MOSCOW, Nov
25 (AFP) President Boris Yeltsin has fallen ill
with a 'viral infection', Russian Prime Minister Vladimir
Putin was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.
Mr Putin's remarks were made during a telephone
conversation with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko,
who was due in Moscow on Friday for the signature of a
union treaty in Russia. Pak finds tunnels on
border
LAHORE, Nov
25 (ANI) The Pakistani authorities have claimed
that they have found two tunnels dug from the Indian side
of the border which, it said, could be used by saboteurs
for smuggling or terrorism. An unnamed police officer was
quoted in Pakistan media as saying that one of the two
tunnels was dug from the south of an Indian village,
Kamalpur, and the other was also close to the same
village. The charge was made a day after a senior Indian
police officer said that Indian troops had found a
4.5-foot wide tunnel from the Pakistan side.

Nov 25 (PTI) Dr K. Venkata Subramaniam, Chanceller
of Pondicherry Central University and former Agriculture
Minister Sompal have been appointed as the new members of
the Planning Commission. With this, the strength of the
commission has gone up to six, Planning Commission
sources said.

25 (UNI) Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior,
which has reached India on its maiden voyage to the
country as part of its global "toxic-free
future tour, was opened to the public today.
The ship will travel the country with the message
"No more Bhopals and a toxics-free India
to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Union Carbide
gas leak disaster as it kicks off the first Asian leg of
its tour. Greenpeace is travelling toxic hotspots all
over the world.
Rail mishap
averted
BANGALORE,
Nov 25 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister S.M. Krishna
and some of his ministerial colleagues had a providential
escape when alert railwaymen averted a major train mishap
near Doddaballapur today. The Udayan Express train bound
for the city from Gulbarga, was halted near Doddaballapur
after gangmen detected fractures on a stretch
of track.
BJP agitation
AGARTALA,
Nov 25 (PTI) The Tripura unit of the BJP kicked
off a statewide agitation last night at a public meeting,
demanding dismissal of the Left Front government in the
state and recall of Governor Siddhewar Prasad. State
party president H.S. Roy Choudhury alleged the state
government had lost political will to solve the
insurgency problem and was instead shifting its
responsibility to the Centre alleging non-release of
adequate forces.
Pak satellite
ISLAMABAD,
Nov 25 (UNI) Pakistan's second experimental
satellite will be launched by a Russian rocket from the
Baikonour Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan in March, a top
Pakistani space scientist has said. Space and Upper
Atmosphere Research Commission Chairman Abdul Majid said.
"The main mission objectives of BADR-2 programme
include indigenous development of low-cost satellites and
creation of necessary infrastructure for future
development in this field".
