Nehru fellowships for two
NEW DELHI, Nov 13 (UNI) — Dr Reba Som, a distinguished scholar of modern history, and Ms Jyoti Trehan, an IPS officer of Punjab cadre, have been awarded this year’s Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship. Dr Som has been awarded the fellowship to work on "Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose: Alternative Leadership Roles’’ while Ms Trehan’s project is "The Proceeds of Crime and Money Laundering in the Indian Context: How it Impinges on National Security’’.

Ministry expansion
AGARTALA, Nov 13 (UNI) — Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will expand his 16-member ministry tomorrow. Sources said here today that the CPM-led Left-Front ministry will be expanded to accommodate newly-elected CPI legislator Balaram Reang, who won from South Tripura’s Santir Bazar assembly constituency (ST) election for which was held on October 3.

Jharkhand stir
RANCHI, Nov 13 (UNI) — The All-Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) will wage a do-or-die agitation for Jharkhand, if the proposed legislation for its creation was not tabled in Parliament during the winter session. Talking to UNI after the Central Executive meeting here yesterday, AJSU Chief Vimal Kachhap said the proposed agitational programmes for statehood would be launched from November 15 from martyr Birsa Munda’s native village Ulihatu to mark his birth anniversary by observing a fast.

Rat fever
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Nov 13 (PTI) — One person died and five have been hospitalised following the outbreak of lepto spirosis (rat fever) in the city suburbs. The District Medical Officer told reporters here today that steps had been taken to check the spread of the epidemic. None of the patients has so far been confirmed of having rat fever.

14 dead in France
TOULOUSE (France), Nov 13 (AFP) — Fourteen persons were killed overnight and six were missing after storms and flooding in South-West France where emergency measures had been put in place, authorities said today. Four members of the same family died when their house was buried under a mudslide, caused by heavy rain in the town of Labastide-Rouairoux, in the Tarn department.
