HOSHIARPUR
Petrol pump robbed:
Bhupinder Singh of Dalowal village was injured when his accomplice Satta of Bhulana village fired to disburse the crowd. They were trying to escape after robbing Rs 81,500 from Amarjit Singh, an employee of the petrol pump at Khadiala Sainian village, 15 km from here on Saturday. Bhupinder was nabbed. Satta, however, managed to escape along with the cash.

Killed: Surinder Ram son of Lalji Ram of Mujafarnagar died on the spot when Baljit Kumar son of Bua Dass hit him at Naloian Chowk here on Sunday. A case has been registered.

Robbery bid: Heera Ram succumbed to his injuries at the local Civil Hospital here on Sunday. According to police sources, Heera Ram and Raju, both farm labourers were beaten up by four persons at their 'dera' at Hardo Khanpur village. When they failed to commit robbery at the residence of Dalvinder Singh, they tied the labourers and started beating them.

Holiday: Mr Mohinder Singh, DPR, said here on Monday that Mr Iqbal Singh Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner, had declared holiday in all schools of the subdivision on November 11, in view of the annual traditional cultural fair of Slamat Ali and Nizakat Ali, well known classical singers, at Shamchaurasi.

Pensioners' gesture:
The Government Pensioners Association has sent a draft for Rs 2100 to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund as aid for the cyclone-affected people of Orissa.

NAWANSHAHR
Function:
The local Shri Vishavkarma Public High School organised annual prize distribution function on Saturday. Mr Iqbal Singh, President, school management committee, presided.

PHILLAUR
Rail traffic:
Down line rail traffic on the Jalandhar-Amritsar rail section remained suspended for five hours on Sunday following derailment of shunting rail engine. However, the traffic could be restored at 3 p.m., according to railway sources here on Monday.

SAMRALA
Function:
Mr Charnjit Singh Atwal, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, will preside over the 13th annual athletic meet of Nankana Sahib Public School, Samrala, on November 13, according to Dr Balwant Singh Chahal, member, managing committee of the school board.

Died: A noted social worker, Dr Sewak Parshad Aggarwal, died here on Monday. The 98-year-old social worker, who was looking after the Shubhwati Dharamsala in Sector 18-D, had been ill for the past over one month. His funeral procession will begin from the 'dharamsala' at 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to family sources.

PANCHKULA
Puja held:
The Sanatan Dharam Radha Varindavan Chander Mandir in Sector 12 held Govardhan Puja here on Monday, which started in the early hours of the morning. Over a thousand devotees took part in the puja and enchanted ‘mantras’ from holy books. The programme concluded with ‘kirtan’ and ‘langar’ .

Medical camp: The Unnat Bharat Vikas in coordination with HelpAge India, Chandigarh, held a free medical camp in Devi Nagar village here on Saturday. A team of doctors from HelpAge India examined about 260 patients and delivered medicines free of cost to them.

Seminar: The President of the Indian National Yuva Lok Dal and Member of Parliament, Mr Ajay Chautala, will be the chief guest at a seminar on “Kargil problem — who is responsible”, being organised here by Zila Patrakar Parishad on Tuesday. Lt-Gen J.L. Malhotra (retd), former Chief of Staff, Northern Command, will be the main speaker on the occasion. Later, Mr Chautala will address a public meeting at Sector 10.top

SHAHABAD
Crushing work:
The Chairman of the Haryana Cooperative Sugar Mills Federation, Mr Banta Ram Balmiki, MLA, will inaugurate the crushing work at Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mill on Tuesday, according to the Managing Director of the mill.

SIRSA
Succumb to injuries:
Lal Chand of Sahuwala village in Sirsa district succumbed to his burn injuries at the local Civil Hospital on Sunday. He was admitted with 70 per cent injuries.

Protest: Ad hoc teachers of the district held a protest here on Saturday in protest against the government's decision not to regularise their services. They demanded that the teachers working on contractual basis should be regularised.

SONEPAT
Construction:
The Haryana Government has undertaken the construction of a community health centre costing Rs 45 lakh and an industrial training institute costing Rs 44 lakh at Ganaur, according to Mr Sudhir Rajpal, Deputy Commissioner. He also said a PWD rest house would be constructed at Kharkhauda and a sainik rest house at Gohana.

Protest: A large number of ad hoc and daily wage teachers held a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Monday in protest against the state government's failure to regularise their services and the decision to recruit 13,000 new teachers.

Two held: The police has arrested Rajinder and Bijinder on a charge of murdering a Bihari youth, according to Mr K.P. Singh, SSP. He said Rajinder had confessed his involvement in the murder.

Celebrated: Nirwan Divas of Bhagwan Mahavira was celebrated with great enthusiasm here on Sunday. A large number of people belonging to the Jain community thronged temples at Gur Mandir, Halwai Hatta and Sector 15 and offered prayers.

A driver of the Irrigation-cum-Public Health Department, Rattan Chand, committed suicide by consuming poison on Sunday. The police has registered a case.

One killed:
Panuram (22) of Shantla village was killed on the spot at Tikkar village, near here on Monday when his tractor overturned. The police has registered a case.
