DSGMC chief quits SAD
NEW DELHI, March 5 (UNI) — The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President and senior Akali leader has resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal headed by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in protest against what he called non-action of the party high command against the violators of the party discipline. In the resignation letter faxed to the party president four days ago, Mr Sethi alleged that some Akali leaders, who were being patronised by the high command, had been running the affairs of the party as their private enterprise and bullying the senior leaders.

13 die in Lanka
COLOMBO, March 5 (PTI) — Twelve LTTE rebels and a Sri Lankan soldier were killed and five others were wounded in renewed clashes between government troops and Tamil guerrillas in the north and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka. Army sources here said six LTTE rebels were killed and five injured in a clash with Special Task Force personnel in eastern Ampara district today.

Beaten to death
JAIPUR, March 5 (PTI) — A boy was found beaten to death in a room of Vivekanand undergraduates’ hostel in Rajasthan University here, the police said today. The 20-year-old victim, R.K. Singh, along with his friends, had apparently consumed liquor in the room and later there was a fight among themselves, DIG Jaipur Range A.K. Jain said. Meanwhile, university Vice-Chancellor Kanta Ahuja said the deceased boy ‘was not our student’.

5 die in mishap
JAIPUR, March 5 (PTI) — Five persons were killed on the spot in a jeep-truck collision near Kalyanpura on Jaipur-Delhi national highway today, the police said. The victims were travelling in the jeep to Kotputali. Another person was injured in the collision and admitted to hospital.

Benazir Bhutto
ISLAMABAD, March 5 (PTI) — The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has elected former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto as life-long chairperson of the party and vowed to launch a mass movement against the policies of the Nawaz Sharif government. Around 350 party delegates from all over the country unanimously voted Benazir to be life-long Chairperson and condemned the Sharif government’s "one-sided accountability’’ process against the PPP chief.

Air attack
TYRE, LEBANON, March 5 (AFP) — Israeli warplanes staged a raid today on the outskirts of a village on the edge of the Israeli-occupied ‘security zone’ in southern Lebanon, the police said. An Israeli fighter-bomber fired two missiles into a valley around 11 am (1430 IST) on the outskirts of the village Jabbal al-Bottom. No casualties were reported.

Hooch kills 3
PATNA, March 5 (PTI) — At least three persons were suspected to have died after consuming illicit liquor here during Holi festival on Wednesday, a top police official said. The deceased were admitted to hospital with symptoms of alcohol poisoning, City Superintendent of Police Jagmohan said.Top
