7 Bihar villagers killed
PATNA, June 28 (UNI) Seven persons were killed by
a gang of criminals at Biharibigha village of this
district last night. Inspector-General of Police
(Operations) M.K. Sinha said here today the villagers
were accosted by a gang of Bahra, alias Vijay Yadav, when
they were returning to their native place, Bansibigha,
after attending a social function.20 killed in mishap
TEHRAN, June 28 (AFP) Twenty persons were killed
and 27 injured yesterday when a bus drove off a bridge
near the Iranian city of Damghan in the northern province
of Semnan, the official IRNA news agency reported today.
Fourteen women and six men and children were killed in
the accident, which the police said was caused by the
driver's carelessness and a steep curve in the road.
Freed on bail
PUNE, June 28 (PTI) The four accused in the Tata
Finance shoot-out case were released on bail by the
Judicial Magistrate, First Class, as the police failed to
file a charge-sheet within the stipulated time of 90
days. The four, allegedly belonging to the Amar Naik gang
of Mumbai and identified as Ganesh Suryakant Sawant (27),
Peter Rajmani George (28), Shridhar Matti (28) and
Shanmukhanandan Sundarraj, were lodged in the Yerwada
prison here.
Dismissed
NEW DELHI, June 28 (PTI) A rural bank official has
been dismissed from service in Orissa following a Central
Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recommendation for regular
departmental action after it was "established"
that the accused had abused his official position and
cheated the bank of Rs 2,86,300. The accused had
allegedly misappropriated the amount during his tenure
with Cuttack Gramya Bank, Sankhatras and Bidanasi branch,
during 1989 to 1993, by way of fraudulent withdrawal and
forging the signature of account holders, a CBI release
said here today.
