FEROZEPORE
Dharna:
Class IV employees of the FCI staged a dharna in front of the office here on Friday. They were protesting against the dismissal of security guards who were working in the corporation for the past 10 years. They were also demanding time-bound promotion, increments and jobs for the member of the deceased employees.

Six rewarded: Mr Hardial Singh, S.P. Vigilance Bureau, Ferozepore range, on Friday honoured six persons on whose complaints government officials were caught red-handed while accepting bribes. The recipients of rewards were Mr Mohinder Singh, Mr Baljinder Singh, Mr Bagh Singh Mr Makhan Singh, Mr Harbans Singh, and Mr Bhupinder Singh. The SP said a reward of Rs 50,000 would be given to Mr Kashmir Singh, a resident of Bastia Nanakpura (Guruharsahai), on whose complaint the SMO of Guruharsahai was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He said the rewards were being given under the Punjab Government policy.

GURDASPUR
Drive:
The Pathankot police recovered 47,1750 ML illicit liquor, 1 kg charas, 10,000 litre kerosene oil, two country-made pistols and 4 cartridges during a drive launched against anti-social elements last month. Besides this, the police nabbed 14 miscreants under the Excise Act, according to Mr Varinder Kumar, SSP.

HOSHIARPUR
Encroachments removed:
The district administration and the Forest Department in a joint operation removed encroachments from 65 acres of prime land worth Rs 2 crore in Manjhi 'hadbast' 497 and Dada 'hadbast' 496 of this district on Friday. This is in addition to 100 acres in Dada, 25 acres in Mahilanwali and 6 acres in Bari Khad encroachments removed in May, according to Mr Iqbal Singh Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner.

MOGA
BKU meeting:
A meeting of the district unit of the BKU was held here on Sunday. Mr Hardev Singh, President of the union, has demanded that the minimum support prices of paddy, cotton and sugarcane should be increased to Rs 636 per quintal, Rs 3,600 per bale and Rs 132 per quintal, respectively. The meeting also decided to send a delegation to New Delhi to meet the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Surjit Singh Barnala, in this regard.

Elected: Mr Mohan Lal Sethi, Municipal Commissioner, was elected Senior Vice-President of the Moga Municipal Committee on Saturday.

NAWANSHAHR
Inaugurated:
Dr Roshan Sunkaria, Deputy Commissioner, and Mr Mohan Lal, MLA, Banga, opened the digging of the Banga-Gopalpur drain at Jandiala village, 20 km from here, on Saturday. This drain will solve the problem of water logging in the Banga area. The Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, on Wednesday presented a cheque of Rs 84.33 lakh to Mr Mohan Lal for this purpose. The DC said the farmers whose land had been acquired for the drain would be compensated.

Inauguration: The SAD-BJP government has so far spent Rs 421.88 crore to provide better health services to the people, said the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mr Manoranjan Kalia, after inaugurating a free medical check-up camp at Bearowal village. He said as many as 750 doctors and 300 nurses had been recruited in the state, besides action had been taken against 175 doctors. He said Mr Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, would lay the foundation stone of a 50-bed hospital at Balachaur on June 17.

Refresher course:
A three-week refresher course on "Laser Physics, Optical Technology and Radiation Physics" was concluded here on Friday. Mr Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia, vice-Chancellor, said the university would encourage interaction between intellectuals and experts in field with the teachers of the university.

PHAGWARA
Raid:
The Railway Magistrate, Mr M.P.S. Ahuja, on Saturday conducted raid at the local railway station and held 50 travellers travelling without tickets. A sum of Rs 30,000 was recovered as fines, according to railway sources.

One held: The police arrested Maan Singh on Saturday and registered a case under Section 354, IPC, for allegedly assaulting Kulwinder Kaur in fields of Sunra Rajputan village on Friday.

PHILLAUR
20 injured:
Twenty passengers of Ludhiana-bound bus, including five women, were injured when the bus in which they were travelling turned turtle near Goraya on the GT road on Friday. The injured were admitted to the local hospital, according to the police said.

Murder: Mohammad Tehsin Alam (40), a Bihari migrant, was allegedly murdered near a dera at Donewal village on Thursday. The body was found with multiple injuries of sharp-edged weapons.

TARN TARAN
Suicide:
Mukhtar Singh (22) of Tharu village, 6 km from here, committed suicide by consuming poison on Friday. He died at the local Civil Hospital.

Businessman robbed: Four miscreants robbed Mr Adan Marwaha, a local businessman, of Rs 46,000, a wrist watch and a gold ring on Friday at Mohanpur village. The Sarhali police has registered a case under Sections 382, 427, IPC, and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Acttop

PANCHKULA
Police booths: Police assistance booths were set up in the markets of Sectors 9 and 11 on Sunday. The police also prepared computer portraits of the bandits involved in the daylight dacoity on Saturday on the basis of details given by an eyewitness and police parties were sent to the suspected hideouts of the dacoits in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

Tourist complex: The Red Bishop Tourist Complex, a unit of the Haryana Tourism Corporation, will be the first tourist complex in the state to have a pub-cum-bar when 'Fantasy' becomes functional in a few weeks. The old stucture of the tourist complex is being renovated to include amusement rides and juice bars.

Eye camp: As many as 150 persons were examined at an eye camp organised by the House Owners Welfare Association of Sector 21 on Sunday.top

HISAR
Centenarian:
Babu Mahavir Prashad Jain, a veteran lawyer, who turned 100 on June 1, was felicitated by the Hisar and Hansi Bar Association here on Saturday. Mr Jain has been practising law for the past 76 years. Mr Justice A.S. Garg and Mr Justice V.M. Jain were present on the occasion. The Haryana Public Health Minister, Mr Jaswant Singh, announced a grant of Rs 51,000 for the Hisar bar.

Trader robbed: Two miscreants looted Rs 6 lakh from Mr Ram Mehar Singh, a trader near Tohana, 70 km from here, while travelling in a passenger train on Friday, according to the railway police here on Saturday. He was coming from Delhi when miscreants entered the compartment and threw chilly powder in his eyes and snatched the bag containing the money. A case under Section 392, IPC, has been registered.

ROHTAK
Town development:
A sum of Rs 8 crore will be spend for the development of town during this year by the HUDA. Mr Siri Kishan Dass, Urban Development Minister, said this here on Saturday after inaugurating the shopping booths, Model Park, primary school building at Sector 14. He said 200 acres had been allocated for industrial area in the town.

SIRSA
Two held:
Baldev Singh and his father, Sheoran Singh, of Baruwali village in this district were arrested on Saturday on a charge of harassing Neelam, wife of Baldev Singh, according to Mr B.S Sandhu, SSP. He said they were arrested on a complaint of Mr Milakhraj, father of Neelam, of Abohali village who alleged that they were demanding more dowry. The police has registered a case.

Flood preventive measures: A meeting of the district officers was held here on Saturday to work out preventive measures against floods. The Deputy Commissioner directed the Departments of Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies, Public Works, HVPN and Forest and Animal Husbandry to take necessary steps by June 30.

Four held: Madan Lal, Mahavir, Mangkla and Gurdev, residents of Abubsahar village in this district, were arrested by the Sadar police, Mandi Dabwali,on Saturday on a charge of molesting and beating a woman and her husband of the same village on May 27, said Mr B.S Sandhu, SSP, here on Sunday. A case under Sections 148,149,354,506 and 323, IPC, was registered against them.

SONEPAT
Murder:
Santosh (35) was allegedly murdered by Ram Karan, brother of her husband, at Gumar village, 20 km from here, on Saturday. The Ganaur police has arrested him and registered a case against him.

Protest: Shops at the Rohtak Gate area in Gohana, 35 km from here, were remained closed on Saturday in protest against the police failure to arrest assailants who allegedly assaulted Mr Darshan Batra, a tailor. top

BILASPUR
Former MLA bereaved:
Mrs Savitri Devi (64), wife of Mr Ganuram, a former MLA, died at Lakhanpur on Saturday. The cremation was attended by a large number of residents and politicians.

Cleanliness drive: Employees of the Bilaspur Nagar Parishad cleaned streets of the town on World Environment Day. The Additional District Magistrate, Mr R.D Pawar, also joined the drive. They removed polythene bags and urged residents to stop using these bags.

DHARAMSALA
CRPF man cremated:
The body of Jagdesh Chand, a CRPF man, who was killed in a land mine blast near Patna on June 1, was brought to his home in Jandrah village of this district and cremated on Saturday. Six CRPF men were killed in the blast which blew up the vehicle in which they were travelling. Hundreds of villagers attended the funeral. He is survived by his wife, two sons and aged parents.

Body found: The body of a 37-year-old woman was found hanging from the roof of her house at Nandoli village under the Shahpur police station in Kangra on Saturday. The police has registered a case.

NURPUR
Minor girl raped:
The Jawali police has arrested Ranjit Singh (25) for allegedly raping a minor girl at Hadwal village, near Dhameta, on Friday. The medical examination of the victim revealed that she was raped. The police has registered a case under Sections 376, 506 and 511, IPC.
