CBI chargesheets Pondicherry ex-CMs
PONDICHERRY, July 14 (UNI) — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed chargesheets against 15 people, including former Pondicherry Chief Ministers D. Ramachandran and V. Vaithilingam and AIADMK Legislature Party leader K. Natarajan in the legislator bribery case. The chargesheet, along with other documents, running to 500 pages, was filed in the court of Special Judge E.V. Kumar. The case pertains to Tamil Maanila Congress legislator M. Kandasamy, now Deputy Speaker in the Pondicherry Assembly, who was allegedly paid Rs 9.5 lakh to switch loyalty and topple the DMK-led coalition government, on March 16, 1997.

NEW DELHI, July 14 (UNI) — Mr Arvind Dave, who retired as Secretary, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) yesterday will be the new Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan release, the appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. He succeeds Mr Mata Prasad, who was asked to relinquish his post following expiry of his term.

15 die in collision
GHAZIABAD (U.P.) July 14 (PTI) — Fifteen persons, including two children, were killed and 16 injured in a head on collision between a bus and a truck loaded with mangoes near Gobindpuram here last evening, the police said today. All the victims were travelling in the bus.

Bihar flood toll 40
PATNA, July 14 (PTI) — The overall flood situation in Bihar continued to be grim today with three major rivers Bagmati, Kosi and Burhi Gandak rising menacingly even as relief measures were stepped up to provide succour to those affected. Forty people have lost their lives in the current spell of floods that continued to wreak havoc in more than 14 Bihar districts. The Burhi Gandak and mahananda were still rising and crossed the danger mark at various places along their course following heavy rains in their catchment areas.

7 die in jeep mishap
SHRINAGAR (Garhwal), July 14 (UNI) — A speeding jeep rolled down into the Alaknanda river in Chamoli district of Uttar Pradesh, killing seven persons, the police said today. An equal number were injured in the mishap near a bridge in Helong in the border district last evening.
