Bar association:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the district Tax Bar Association : President — Mr Anil Gupta; Vice-President — Mr Vijay Kumar Jindal; Secretay — Mr Ashok Kumar Singla; and Joint Secretary — Mr Parvesh Bansal.

Seminar: Mr Jagmohan Kaushal, Chairman, Teachers Home Trust, in a press note issued here on Saturday said a seminar on the degradation in education standards would be held here on Sunday.

GURDASPUR
Misappropriation:
A case has been registered against the sarpanch of Dholowal village regarding the alleged misappropriation of government funds allotted for the development of the village. The matter was raised at a meeting of the District Grievances Removal Committee held here recently.

JALANDHAR
Passports:
Applications up to serial number 402/86063/98 for passports received at the passport office here till September 25 have been processed. These have been dispatched to persons whose applications were complete in all respects till the week ending December 31.

KHANNA
Cheques distributed:
Mr Bachan Singh Cheema, a local MLA, and Mr Sikander Singh, Chairman, Market Committee, distributed cheques totalling Rs 1.70 lakh among 12 handicapped persons at a function held in the Market Committee's office here on Friday.

Bail rejected: Mr Lakhmir Singh, Additional Sessions Judge, Ludhiana, has rejected the bail application of Gurminder Singh Lally, a Congress Municipal Councillor, and his ally Mr Ladi, whom the police wants in a case registered under Sections 323, 427, 452, 148 and 149, IPC.

Identity cards: The photo-identity cards of 64 Khanna (R) constituency were prepared by official camera teams here on Friday. The SDM, Mr S.S. Gill had informed various political party leaders in this regard. But the people here alleged that they could not find the vennus where these identity cards were being prepared.

MALERKOTLA
Thieves arrested:
The local police has arrested Mohammad Ali, Bhola and Noorudin and recovered four electric motors from them. Mr Indermohan Singh, DSP, said these motors were stolen on January 4 from the premises of Sant Maltings here. A case has been registered.

Bus service: The Muslim community here has welcomed the bus service between India and Pakistan. Ms Sajida Begum, a former local MLA, said here on Saturday that this would promote unity between the two countries.

Celebrated:
The Inner Wheel Club (District 309 ) celebrated the platinum jubilee of the International Inner Wheel Club here. Ms Shashi Gupta , President of the association was the chief guest, according to a press note issued here on Friday.

AMBALA
Booked:
The Baldev Nagar police has booked Gopal Krishan for allegedly murdering Baldev Singh of the Shahzadpur locality here under Section 302, IPC. The case was registered on a complaint lodged by Richpal Kaur, wife of the deceased.

JIND
Gang member held:
The district police has arrested Sukhpal, a member of an inter-state gang of dacoits. Mr Ranbir Sharma, Superintendent of Police, said here on Friday that the gang had been involved in a number of crimes in Rajasthan and Haryana.

SIRSA
Found dead:
Darshan Singh of Sardulgarh town in Punjab was found dead on the Gaushala road here on Thursday, according to information. It seems that he died because of consuming liquor and exposure to cold, but his wife alleged that Phoola and Subhash Khan , both residents of Bhadra town of Rajasthan, had committed the crime.

SONEPAT
Association:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Kharkhauda block of the Haryana Rajkiya Kala Adhyapak Sangh: President — Mr Ram Kumar; Vice-President — Mr Luxmi Dutt Sharma; Secretary — Mr Vishwa Nath Sharma; and Treasurer — Mr Puran Chand Gehlawat.

Arrested: The Gohana police has arrested Ranbir and Telu Ram in connection with the alleged murder of Howa Singh of Gohana town in the district. According to the police, the number of arrests made in this connection have risen to four.

Training programme : The Krishi Vigyan Kendra here organised a training programme on the protection of seeds in forestry nurseries here on Friday.

KULU
Meeting deferred:
The no-confidence motion meeting against the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman of the panchayat samiti of the nagar block scheduled for January 8 has been deferred to January 22. This has been done under the Panchayati Raj Act (Rule 131) for the non-compliance of notices by some members of the samiti.

NURPUR
Salaries not paid:
Resentment prevails among employees of the local Municipal Council as they have not received their salaries for December. The council has no Executive Officer to withdraw or disburse the pay bill. The government has neither posted any new officer nor given the administrative powers to any official.

Timber smuggling: The Forest Department here intercepted two tractor-trailers loaded with illegal timber logs being smuggled into Punjab at Malahri, near Indora, on Thursday. A case under the Forest Act has been registered and five persons have been arrested in this connection.top
