Diabetes camp:
As many as 164 persons were examined at a diabetes detection-cum-treatment camp which was organised on Sunday at the local Francis Newton Hospital by the Indian Social Welfare Society.

JALANDHAR
Resigned:
The president of the Bholath unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (Ambedkar), Mr Amarnath, resigned on Sunday in protest against the "indifferent" attitude of the president of the Party, Mr Devi Dass Nahar. He alleged in a press note that Mr Nahar had done nothing for the cause of the Dalits.

NAWANSHAHR
'Kala jathas':
The District Literacy Society organised a two-day "Kala jatha" workshop which concluded here on Saturday. The purpose of the workshop was to prepare "Kala jathas" of school students who will organise cultural programmes based on street plays, songs and poems etc with a view to build up a conducive environment to launch a reproductive child health programme in the district.

SAMRALA
School function:
The annual prize distribution function of Sacred Heart Convent Public School, Ottala, near here, was held on Sunday. The function was inaugurated by the DSP, Mr Gurmel Singh Sidhu, and prizes were distributed by MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon. The Principal, Sister Roseline, presented the annual progress report of the school.

Tributes paid: Tributes were paid to freedom fighter and former president of the Petition Writers Association Girdhari Lal Sharma at the local Durga Mandir on Monday. The MLA, Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon, Mr Karam Singh Dhaliwal, president of the Community Centre, and Mr Harbans Singh Diwa, President of the local Bar Association, highlighted his sacrifices.

Donation: As many as 1,700 suits, 2000 ladies suits, 1,000 jerseys, 80 blankets and Rs 20,000 were collected by the local Punjab Public High School and sent through the SDM for the Orrisa relief fund on Sunday.

Pensioners' day: Pensioners of the Co-op Department have decided to celebrate pensioners' day on Friday at Bhai Chatar Singh Park, Ludhiana. Mr Sardara Singh, general secretary of the Punjab Pensioners Association, said here on Monday that representatives of all units of Punjab would participate.

'Restore' NSS unit:
Dr Sukhdev Singh Lauka, former president of the Citizen Council, in a press note here on Sunday demanded that the NSS unit in the local SGAD Government College should be restored as an annual fee was being charged from students for the unit.

Gurdwara panel: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Gurdwara Baba Vir Singh Committee, Naurangabad: president — Mr Jagtar Singh Jaggi, and vice-president — Mr Sadhu Singh Chambal.

Appointed: The District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO), Amritsar, has appointed administrators for Gandiwand, Pakhopura, Fatehabad and Kambo Dhai Wala gram panchayats.top

SONEPAT
Jeep stolen: A jeep was allegedly stolen when it was parked outside a house at Shekhpura village, about 20 km from here, on Sunday night. The owner of the jeep has lodged an FIR with the Ganaur police.

Body found: The police found the body of an unidentified 35-year-old man lying on the Sonepat-Rathdhanna road near Bandepur village, about 2 km from here, on Saturday. The police believe that he had been hit by an unknown vehicle resulting in his death.

Teachers' warning: The Haryana State Ad Hoc Teachers Sangh has warned the state government that if the services of the ad hoc teachers were not regularised, they will teach a lesson to the INLD and BJP in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state. This was announced at a state-level rally held here on Saturday.top
