Children's day celebrated: To commemorate the World Children's Day, a Bal mela was organised at the Aam Khas bagh here on Tuesday in which students from all schools of the district participated. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the mela, Mr V.K. Janjua, Deputy Commissioner, said the overall development of children was the joint responsibility of the parents as well as the teachers. A painting, songs and a cultural competition was organised on the occasion.

PATIALA
Foundation stone laid: Raja Narinder Singh, Public Health Minister, laid the foundation stone of a link road at Baura Khurad village near Nabha town in the district on Tuesday. He said link roads up to a 20-km stretch in all blocks of the district would be laid with concrete soon.

Annual function: The local Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 celebrated its annual function on Tuesday with a colourful variety programme. Brig D.D. Dhadwal, Deputy GOC, 1st Armed Division and Chairman, VMC, was the guest of honour for the evening. The Principal of the school, Mr H.S. Puri, presented the annual report of the school. The chief guest gave prizes to the meritorious students of the session.

Ayurvedic camp: The Central Research Institute (Ayurveda and the local Sheesh Mahal Lions Club organised on Tuesday a free ayurvedic check-up camp at Mandor village here. Specialists led by Dr M.V. Acharya, Assistant Director of the institute, examined 590 patients at the camp. Mr Zora Singh Thind, SDM, Nabha, inaugurated the camp.

SAMRALA
Rally: Employees of the local Health Department held a big rally in front of the SDM Courts and staged a dharna for two hours to protest against the non-payment of their salaries for the past two months. They later submitted a memorandum to Mr Arun Sekhri, SDM, who assured them to send it to the government for immediate action.

Recovered: The police has arrested two persons and recovered two stolen Maruti cars from them. Mr K.K. Sindhu, Superintendent of Police, said in a press note on Tuesday that the two cars were stolen on September 27 and November 15 from Chandigarh and Mohali. The culprits have been identified as Amarjeet Singh of Mohali and Ajay of Chandigarh. Both suspects have been arrested under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC.

Killed: An employee of the local Telephone Department died in a road accident here on Monday. According to police sources, Satpal, a resident of Rasoolpur, was crushed to death when he was hit by a truck. The police has registered a case against the driver of the truck under Sections 279 and 304 of the IPC.top

BILASPUR
Inaugurated: Bilaspur and Nainadevi came on a direct telephone line on Monday. Then Mr Suresh Chandel, MP and BJP state President, inaugurated a 680-line ultra-modern telephone exchange at Nainadevi. Earlier Nainadevi had only 264 lines and Bilaspur was connected with Nainadevi via Una.

Water sports: The Himachal Pradesh State Tourism and Civil Aviation department on Tuesday launched an ambitious project of water sports activities in Gobind Sagar here by providing its boats and equipment to trained youths for the promotion of tourism. The project was inaugurated by the Himachal Pradesh Financial Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Tourism, Mr Ajay Prashad.

KANGRA
Killed: Surender Kumar (26) of Bussal village was killed on the spot at Kandhi Sarah on Tuesday when he was hit by a tractor, according to the police. A case has been registered.

Illicit liquor seized: The police on Tuesday arrested two persons and seized two working stills and 30,000 millilitres of illicit liquor from Basantpur and Gangwal villages falling under Indora police station, during a raid. According to the Additional Superintendent of Police, Mr Kapil Sharma, the arrested persons have been identified as Karnail Singh and Joginder Singh.

Welfare schemes: The government will spend Rs 5.46 crore on different welfare schemes in the district during the current financial year, out of which by November-end, Rs 3.37 crore have already been spent. This was disclosed at a District Welfare Committee meeting at Dharamsala on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by the Agriculture Minister, Mr Vidya Sagar. Till November Rs 3.22 crore had been distributed as pension among 26,129 pensioners.top
