Bihar JD (U) chief quits
PATNA, Aug 29 (PTI) — The President of the Bihar unit of the JD (U), Mr Ramjivan Singh, today resigned from his post and the three-member steering committee formed to coordinate the party’s campaign for the coming Lok Sabha poll in the state. He did not disclose the reason behind his resignation conveyed through a letter sent to the JD (U) national President, Mr Sharad Yadav. JD (U) sources, however, said his resignation was in protest against the denial of a ticket to him from Begusarai.

TN BJP splits
TIRUCHIRAPALLI, Aug 29 (UNI) — In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP in Tamil Nadu today suffered a split, with a section of party workers forming a new party, Tamil Nadu State Bharatiya Janata Party. Former BJP state unit executive member M. Gnanasekaran told newspersons after launching the party that the BJP was now under the control of the RSS.

14 hurt in clash
PURI, Aug 29 (PTI) — Fourteen persons, including four policemen, were injured in a clash between fishermen and others at the Krushnaprasad block of Puri district yesterday over fishing in Chilka Lake, police said today. The fishermen allegedly hurled crude bombs at the non-fishermen near Talatola village when they objected to the fishermen entering their territory, it said.

Minister killed
PRISTINA (Skopje) Aug 29 (DPA) — Macedonian minister without a portfolio Radovan Stojakvski was killed yesterday when his car collided with a minibus used by peacekeeping troops, a spokesman said in the Kosovo capital Pristina today. Stojakvski’s wife and daughter also died in the collision. Two Norwegian peacekeepers were injured.
