India, Bangladesh hold meeting
BELONIA (South Tripura), Aug 25 (UNI) — India and Bangladesh will maintain status-quo over the disputed 67.31-acre Muhurichar land along the Indo-Bangla border in South Tripura as the three-day-long crossfire between the BSF and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) stopped last evening. The decision to maintain status-quo was taken at a high-level meeting between the BDR Director-General and the BSF Inspector-General which was held here today. A BSF spokesman said after the meeting that both sides had decided to maintain status-quo and restraint over the issue of disputed land.

4 beaten to death
BANKA, Aug 25 (PTI) — Four suspected criminals were beaten to death by angry villagers at Bangaon village in Banka district of Bihar last night, the police said today. The SP, Mr Jaglal Chaudhary, said the villagers caught hold of the suspected criminals when they were allegedly planning to commit a dacoity and beat them to death.

11 killed in Lanka
COLOMBO, Aug 25 (AFP) — Tamil Tiger guerrillas killed at least four elite police commandos during an attack in eastern Sri Lanka today while seven rebels were killed by troops elsewhere, officials said. Gunmen of the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) attacked the Special task Force (STF) police commandos in Amapara district today, official said.

SC reserves order
NEW DELHI, Aug 25 (PTI) — The Supreme Court today reserved its order on the question whether to issue contempt notices to Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy and Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar for alleged derogatory remarks about an interim order by the apex court on the Sardar Sarovar project.

KCF militant shot
LUCKNOW, Aug 25 (PTI) — The police today gunned down a hardcore Khalistan Commando Force (Panjwar group) terrorist, Manjit Singh believed to be involved in disruptive activities, in village Randewa Tiraha of Saharanpur district, a Home Department spokesman said. He said a letter pad of the Khalistan Commando Force, a hand grenade, some bombs, a 12-bore revolver and few empty cartridges of AK 47 were recovered from his possession.

Explosion
ISLAMABAD, Aug 25 (PTI) — At least 10 persons including six Islamic militia men, have been killed and several injured when a bomb-laden truck exploded near the house of Taliban spiritual leader Mullah Mohammed Omar in the Afghanistan city of Kandahar. While confirming the blast, which occurred late last night, head of the Taliban Information Department in Kandahar Abdul Hayee Mutmaeen said that so far no one had taken responsibility for the explosion.

Arrested
THE HAGUE, Aug 25 (Reuters) — The Austrian police today seized the head of the Bosnian Serb Army, the most senior military figure yet detained on orders of the UN War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague. Gen Momir Talic, Chief of Staff of the Bosnian Serb Army, was in Vienna for a military conference unaware that UN prosecutors had secretly charged him with the persecution and expulsion of Muslims and Croats in northwestern Bosnia in 1992. Gen Talic, named alongside former Bosnian Serb Deputy Prime Minister Radoslav Brdjanin, is the highest ranking military figure detained so far, tribunal spokesman Jim Landale said.
