Bihar Govt shifts CS, DGP
PATNA, April 26 (PTI) — In a major reshuffle the Bihar Government has shifted its Chief Secretary V.S. Dubey and Director-General of Police T.P. Sinha, appointed during the brief spell of President's rule in the state, besides several other senior bureaucrats. The Administrator-cum-Managing Director of the Bihar State Cooperative Bank, Mr S.N. Biswas, replaced Mr Dubey as the Chief Secretary today, while Mr K.A. Jacob was reinstated as the DGP in place of Mr Sinha, official sources said.

Adhikari dead
KATHMANDU, April 26 (AFP) — Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party-United Marxist and Leninist (NCP-UML), Manmohan Adhikari, died early today aged 78, hospital officials said. Adhikari suffered a massive heart attack on April 20, collapsing while campaigning for the May general election. He had been in a coma at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. The government announced flags were to fly at half-mast and he would be given a state funeral tomorrow.

UK on full alert
LONDON, April 26 (Reuters) — Britain's minority non-white communities warned today that vigilante-style patrols may take to the streets to hunt down white supremacists blamed for a second nail bomb attack in eight days. The government told black and Asian communities to be on full alert for new attacks in what the media have called the nation's worst outbreak of racist violence since the late 1970s. A neo-Nazi group claimed responsibility for the attacks on successive Saturday evenings.

12 devotees dead
LAHORE, April 26 (DPA) — At least 12 persons were killed and 60 others injured when two buses carrying devotees to a shrine collided head on near Sialkot, press reports said today. The accident occurred last evening. Women and children were among the dead and injured, hospital sources said.

Guerrillas kill 25
LISBON, April 26 (Reuters) — Suspected UNITA guerrillas have killed at least 25 persons, including 10 policemen, and wounded many more in an attack on a train in western Angola, Portugal's Renascenca Radio reported today. Renascenca, in a report from Luanda, said the attack occurred yesterday near Caniala, some 80 km from the western port city of Benguela in the former Portuguese colony.

2 ultras killed
GUWAHATI, April 26 (PTI) — Two hardcore ULFA and NDFB ultras have been killed in separate encounters with the Army in lower Assam, official sources said here today. Self-styled NDFB Second Lieutenant Akon Basumatary, alias B. Okhra, was shot dead at the Gohpur reserve forest today by troops of 21 Mountain Division operating in Sonitpur district and recovered a 7.62 mm self-loading rifle (SLR) and two Chinese grenades from him, the sources said.

6 die of asphyxia
VIJAYAWADA, April 26 (UNI) — Six contract workers died of asphyxiation while cleaning a molasses tank in a sugar factory at Vuyyur in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh this morning. The police here said initially two workers went inside the empty tank and collapsed. Four other workers also collapsed while trying to rescue them. They were rushed to a corporate hospital here where they died.

Arunachal bandh
ITANAGAR, April 26 (UNI) — A 24-hour capital complex bandh called by a students' organisation in Arunachal Pradesh failed to evoke much response today as all state and central government offices functioned normally and state transport buses plied as usual. Private vehicles, which stayed off the roads in the morning, also started plying as the day advanced. Markets and business establishments, which were closed in the morning, opened later on.
