Epilepsy patient injured, dies

CHANDIGARH, April 15 — A woman died after she received injuries at her home following a reported attack of epilepsy.

Suman, aged about 35 years , was alone at home this morning when she experienced a major attack of epilepsy. She reportedly fell down and was injured badly. Neighbours rushed her to the PGI where she died at around 2:30 pm. The woman had three kids and her husband was running a painting business in Sector 28, according to police sources.

Five booked: A group five city youths werebooked for allegedly passing lewd remarks at women near a disco. The five — Amardeep Singh, Deepak Sehgal, Himat Mehta , Pawandeep and Ankuj — were booked under Section 294 of the IPC. Barring Pawandeep and Ankuj, the other three have been arrested.

Fell down: Gurpreet Kaur a student of Government College for Girls (GCG), Sector 42, reportedly fell down from the stairs in her college and was seriously injured . She was rushed to the GCMH. The police has ruled out foul play.

Teased: A woman, going with her servant, had to face eve-teasing at the hands of a car-borne youth in Sector 10. The youth sped off before hitting the servant. The police has identified the car as (PB-29-0444) and are on the look-out for the youth. A case has been registered under Sections 279 and 294 of the IPC.

Arrested: The driver of the Gypsy (PB-12-C-3451) that hit an unidentified woman has been arrested. The Gypsy is attached in the escort party of a senior Punjab Minister. The driver, Surinder Kumar of district Hoshiarpur, was booked under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC.

Two injured: A Panjab University professor and a child of a Panjab University employee were injured in separate road accidents. Prof M.S. Kaul, fell off his scooter on the campus. Meanwhile, Nibber, who was walking towards the market in Sector 14, was injured when he ran onto the road . An oncoming scooter hit him.

One dead: One person died and four others were seriously injured in a collision between a truck and a tractor trolley near Mauli village under the jurisdiction of the Raipur Rani police station near here on Wednesday.

The truck (HR-29-C-3073) driven by Meharban hit the tractor trolley, following which a woman of Kodwa village in Ambala in the trolley was killed on the spot and four passengers received injuries.Back

Fire station stone laid

CHANDIGARH, April 15 — The Mayor, Mr Kewal Krishan Addiwal, today laid the foundation stone of a fire station in the Capitol Complex here.

Mr Addiwal emphasised the need of educating the public about safety measures to be taken before the arrival of the fire brigade so that the damage could be minimised.

Saying that the fire station would be built in six months, he said the station at the Industrial Area, Phase II, would be functional within this year. The foundation stone of another fire station in the Timber Market in Sector 26 would be laid soon, he added.

Welcoming the guests, Mr R.K. Rao, Assistant Commissioner--I, hoped that the construction of the fire station would provide the much-needed fire safety cover to the Capitol Complex.

To be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 20.37 lakh, it would be the eighth fire station in the city.

Later, the Secretary of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC), Dr Amar Pal Singh, informed that the fire wing had acquired the dry chemical powder (DCP) fire engine for extinguishing fires involving chemicals , another water bouser with 18,000 litres' capacity, jeep fire engines for extinguishing fires in colonies and villages, and a 4-lakh digital wireless system for better communication.

And five new engines were being fabricated and would be ready by next month, he added

Besides this, one water bouser, three fire tenders and two multi-purpose gadgets would be added during the current financial year. A provision of Rs 10 lakh has been made for purchasing the fire fighting equipment.

Meanwhile, the fire wing launched an ambulance van for evacuating fire victims.Back
