Eye surgery telecast live
BANGALORE, April 11 (PTI) — Eye surgeons here beamed a two-hour cataract surgery without anaesthesia live via satellite to Seattle in the USA last night, a senior eye surgeon, Dr Sunita Agarwal has said. The uplink was done during the annual meeting of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), she told newsmen after the telecast.

Genocide apology
KIGALI, April 11 (Reuters) — The Rwandan Prime Minister Mr Pierre-Celestin Rwigema has asked for forgiveness for his party’s role in the 1994 genocide in which an estimated 800,000 persons died, Rwandan radio reported today. Rwigema’s Republican Democratic Movement (MDR) is mainly supported by the country’s Hutu majority which launched the genocidal attacks on minority Tutsis.

Blast in bank
SAHARANPUR, April 11 (PTI) — A powerful bomb exploded in the Bank of Baroda building at the Hakikatnagar area in the city in the wee hours today causing extensive damage, a top police official said. There was no loss of human life, SSP Mukul Goel said.

Lankan violence
COLOMBO, April 11(AP) — Government troops killed 18 Tamil rebels in clashes in northern Sri Lanka and injured three more, the Defence Ministry said today. One soldier was also injured in the fighting. Ten of the rebels were killed yesterday in an ambush laid by government soldiers in Paranthan, 275 km north of Colombo.
