Khalsa march:
The Khalsa chetna parikama march which started from Anandpur Sahib was welcomed by a large number of devotees here. Dr Jang Bahadur Singh, Mr Baldev Singh Mahilpuri and Mr Sohan Singh, MLA, were among those who welcomed the march.

LUDHIANA
Award:
Mamta, a student of MBA of Punjab Agricultural University, has been selected for the District Youth Award for 1998-99 by the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi.

MOGA
Two injured:
Mr Avtar Singh, Congress worker of Langeana Khurd village, and his sister were injured when they were allegedly attacked by some miscreants on Friday. The General Secretary, PPCC, Dr Malti Thapar, has condemned the attack and demanded action against the culprits.

PHAGWARA
Sammelans:
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Punjab, will hold 5,000 sammelans of its workers during its jan jagran drive from April 6 to May 13. This was disclosed here on Sunday by Mr Tarun Chug, president, BJYM, Punjab. He said 200 sammelans would be held in each district.

TARN TARAN
Body found:
The police found a body of Joginder Singh (74) a resident of Ludhiana on Saturday from the sarovar of the local Sri Darbar Sahib. He was reportedly drowned two-day back. The police has registered a case.

Case registered: The police registered a case on Saturday under Section 302, IPC, against Baldev Singh, alias Sonu, for allegedly murdering Jaswant Singh, a local resident, here on Friday.top

Elected:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Lions Club Chandigarh (Host): President — Mr Manmohan S. Walia; Secretary — Mr Surinder Nath Kohli; Treasurer — Mr Sanjay Jain; and PRO — Mr D.N. Kashayap.

Fire: Fire broke out twice in the jungle near the Western Command Area near here on Sunday. Fire-fighters from the local fire-station were called to extinguish the fire.

PANCHKULA
Welfare association:
The Resident Welfare Association of Sector 2 has drawn the attention of HUDA officials towards the lack of basic amenities in the sector. Mr M.L.Sharma, President of the association said the sector lacked a community centre, a post office branch and a dispensary. The state of cleanliness in the sector was bad. Removal of silt from roads was also sought by the residents.

Function: The annual function of the local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad is being celebrated at Parishad Bhavan in Sector 12-A here on Monday. The Industries Minister, Mr Shashi Pal Mehta, will be the chief guest.

Medical camp:
A free medical camp was organised at Dr Jasmer Singh Hospital, Phase I, on Sunday by the 300 Saala Khalsa Charitable Trust. Dr R.S. Sandhu, Director, Health Services of Chandigarh, inaugurated the camp where 250 patients were examined. Medicines were given free of cost to the needy.

HISAR
Elected:
Mr M.P. Jakhar has been elected president of the Hansi Bar Association by defeating his rival candidate, Mr Anil Roparia, by 22 votes.

Six injured: Six persons, including three women, were injured in a clash between the two groups in Pali village of the district on Sunday. The construction of drain is stated to be the cause of the clash. The injured, Dalbir, Surjit, Ved, Krishna, Seeto, and Taro were admitted to a hospital in Hansi.

Accidents: Two persons were killed and four injured when a Swaraj Mazda mini-truck overturned near Kaimri village, 10 km from here, on Saturday. The vehicle was on a way to Chuli village. The injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital . In another accident, Rambir (22) was killed by an unknown truck near Chiranwas village on Saturday. The police has registered cases.

Jail inmate injured: Inder Gujjar, a jail inmate, was injured when he was allegedly attacked by a group of other inmates in Central Jail here on Saturday. According to jail sources, seven inmates, including two prisoners, attacked him with sharp-edged weapons. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital. Inder who is in Bhiwani Jail was brought here for producing in a local court.

Memorandum submitted:
A deputation of parents and guardians of students of Maharaja Aggarsain Institute of Medical Education and Research, Agroha, met Mr Brij Mohan Singla, Health Minister, Haryana, here on Sunday and submitted a memorandum to him. They demanded that either the MBBS students would be shifted to Medical College, Rohtak, or the government would take over the college.

KAITHAL
Teachers protest:
Teachers of the government schools held a gate meeting outside the answersheet checking centre on Thursday in protest against the non-payment of their dues by the State School Education Board since March 1997 for checking of answersheets. The other demands of the teachers include payment of daily allowance and increase in examination allowance.

SIRSA
Liquor seized:
The police seized huge quantity of liquor from three persons in the district on Friday. Mr B.S. Sandhu, SSP, said here that the Ellenabad police had seized 156 bottles of liquor from Mahavir of Dhani Phorkan, 96 bottles from Dharampal and 120 bottles from Jagga Singh.

One arrested: Sanjay Singh, a resident of Muradabad, was arrested by the local police from Bathinda on Saturday in a theft case and recovered a Maruti car from his possession which was allegedly stolen from Anmol Palace, Sirsa, on December 13. In another case, Shamsher Singh of Masitan village in this district was arrested by the Mandi Dabwali police in a criminal case registered against him under the Excise Act. The police recovered 120 bottles of liquor from his possession.

Case registered: A criminal case has been registered under Sections 353,332,186 and 34, IPC, against Manjeet Singh and Angrez Singh of Jagmalwali village at the Kalanwali police station on a complaint of Mr Amar Singh, a conductor of Haryana Roadways, in which he alleged that he was beaten by them when he was on duty.top

BILASPUR
Dharnas:
Members of the HP State Panchayat Chowkidars Union started a fast in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Saturday demanding regularisation of their services and salary and allowances on a par with class IV employees. Members of the HP State Tailoring and Cutting Teachers Union held a dharna in protest against the failure of the government to regularise their services. Earlier, both the unions held demonstrations in the town.

Khair wood seized: Forest officials arrested Sanjay Kumar of Sunhani at Balhseena, near Kallar, on Friday and seized 25 quintal khair wood, valued at Rs 50,000. He was carrying the wood in a tractor. The police has registered a case.

Health day : Dr M.L. Mahajan, Chief Medical Officer, said here on Sunday that World Health Day would be celebrated here in the District Hospital on April 7 and the theme would be "Health Care for Aged". He said on this day a camp would be held here.

Conference: A two-day state-level conference of Shri Sen Bhagat Maha Sabha will start on April 12 at Mehare, near Badsar, in Hamirpur district, according to Mr R.S. Mankotia, state president of the sabha.top
