Medical camp
The local wing of the Bharat Vikas Parishad organised a free medical camp for children here on Sunday. As many as 600 patients were examined and medicines distributed free of cost to them.

FEROZEPORE

Grants
Mr Zora Singh, local MP, on Sunday announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh out of his discretionary fund for the construction of the sports stadium at Mudki village. The Minister of State for Cooperation and Sainik Welfare Punjab, Mr Janmeja Singh Sekhon, also announced grants of Rs 1 lakh for the construction of high school building and maintenance of streets and drains of the village.
Lok adalat
A permanent lok adalat will be set here soon to redress the grievances of the people, Mrs Bakhshish Kaur, District and Sessions Judge, said here on Saturday. She said a list of lawyers would be prepared, who would provide free legal advice to persons whose income is less than Rs 18,000 per year.

Blood donation
The Blood Donors Society organised a blood donation camp here on Saturday. As many as 512 units of blood were donated at the camp.

HOSHIARPUR

Lok adalat
The District and Sessions Judge, Hoshiarpur, inaugurated a lok adalat here on Saturday. As many as 38 cases out of 81 were disposed of on the spot and the others referred to the authorities concerned to take appropriate action.
Announced

The Punjab Government will spend Rs 90 crore for the construction of drains and pavements in rural areas of the state during this year, Mr Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Development Minister, Punjab, said at Dhamian village on Saturday. He said the government would also spend Rs 600 crore for the welfare of Scheduled castes.

Kendriya Vidyalayas
A three-day Kendriya Vidyalayas regional meeting, which was held at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 in the cantonment, concluded here on Sunday. As many as 272 girls from 54 institutions participated. Group Capt P. Kumar presided over the function while Mrs Sukwinder Kaur, wife of Air Commodore K.S. Chhina, AOC, graced the occasion.

Three arrested
The police has arrested Dalbir, Makhan and Uma Shankar in connection with the alleged murder of Birender, whose body was found near the telephone exchange in Sector 23 here on Friday.

Samples
Officials of the Health Department have conducted raids on shops in this district and seized four samples of mustard oil, according to Dr V.K. Malhotra, District Health Officer.

Caught
Balwan Singh, Assistant Lineman, of the HSEB in Mandi Dabwali was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 500 from a consumer of the town, Mr B.S. Sandhu, SP, Sirsa, said here on Saturday. A case has been registered.
Accident
One person was killed and four others injured when their vehicle collided with a truck near Odhan village in this district on Friday. The injured were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

Pistols seized
The police arrested Kuldeep and Amit, residents of Nehru Park in Bahadurgarh, and recovered country-made pistols from them. A case has been registered against them.

YAMUNANAGAR

Blood donated
The local Mukand Lal National College organised its 27th blood donation camp on the occasion of Teachers' Day and the birth anniversary of its founder, Seth Jai Parkash, on Saturday. As many as 268 bottles of blood were donated. Mr Arun Aggarwal donated blood for the 100th time and Mr Parveen Moudgil for the 81st.top

Cases solved
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ramesh Kapil, organised a district-level 'shikayat nivaran shivir' here on Saturday. As many as 21 cases were disposed of on the spot.
Bank union

The district unit of the HP State Cooperative Bank Employees Union has expressed thanks to the bank management for releasing dearness allowance instalments for all bank employees which were due since July, 1997.

Elected
Mr Des Raj was unanimously elected chairman of the local Zila Parishad on Friday. Out of 18 members of the parishad 13 were present during the election.

Income tax forms
Mr S.S. Guleria, Income Tax Officer, said here on Saturday that new income tax return forms have been made available in the Income Tax office. Meanwhile, the Income Tax Bar Association has urged the Central Board of Direct Taxes to extend the date of filing the returns.
