Gang busted
The local police claimed to have busted a gang of thieves with the arrest of its two members and found a number of vehicles in their possession. Inderjit Singh, a member of the gang, has been absconding.

FEROZEPORE

Memorandum
A former press secretary of the Punjab Education Department Ministerial Staff (Sub Office) Association, Mr Ishar Singh Chadha, has submitted a memorandum to the Education Secretary, Ms S.K. Sandhu, demanding withdrawal of transfers of 91 gazetted officers. He apprised her that 800 government senior secondary and high schools were headless in the state.

JALANDHAR

Complimented
Major Gen K.C. Padha, General Officer Commanding, VSM, on Monday complimented the gallantry award winners and junior commissioned officers who got honorary commissions. The ceremony was attended by a large number of Army personnel somewhere in the western sector.

MOGA

Convention
A convention of the All Punjab FCI Quality Control Staff Welfare Association was held here on Sunday to discuss paddy procurement problems. As many as 200 officials of the association attended the convention. The association urged the authorities concerned to make immediate arrangements for gunny bags.
Scooter stolen
A person took away a scooter belonging to Mr Jugraj Singh, a resident of Kot Rai village, which was parked in front of a shop. The matter was reported to the police.
One injured
One person was injured in a clash between owners of a taxi stand and shopkeepers at the bus stand in Baghapurana on Sunday. The clash reportedly took place over the parking of taxis in front of the recently built shops.

Elected
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Patiala Help Line (Rattan Nagar): president — Mr Pardeep Kumar; vice-president — Mr Navdeep Singh; general secretary — Mr Shamsher Singh; joint secretary — Mr Amardeep Singh Virk; and treasurer — Mr Gurinderjit Bhattal.
Blood donation camp
The Dashmesh Club, Nabha, organised a blood donation camp in memory of the late Mr Beant Singh, former Chief Minister of Punjab, at Civil Hospital, Nabha, in which 50 volunteers donated blood. They were given badges by Mrs Jaswant Kaur, wife of the late Chief Minister.
Milkmen's union
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Milkmen's Union: president — Mr Randhir Singh Khalifewala; vice-president — Mr Surjit Paul Ralli Majra; and general secretary — Mr Gurnam Singh Devigarh.

Hepatitis-B camp
The local Rotary Club, the Rotract Club and the Innerwheel Club organised a Hepatitis-B vaccination camps at Gandhi Public School and Ambuja colony on Sunday. According to Mr Raj Kumar Kapoor, spokesman for the Rotary Club, as many as 2200 persons were vaccinated.

Mr Jagjiwan Singh Khirnian and Mr Darshan Singh Lopon has been elected chairman and vice-chairman, respectively, of the Samrala Primary Land Mortgage Bank Limited.

Sanctioned
The local MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain has sanctioned Rs one lakh out of his local area development fund for the development of community park in Sector 19, a press note issued by the Sector 19 Cheap Houses Residents Welfare Association president, R.C. Gupta said.
Tree plantation
A sapling plantation function was organised at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, here on Monday. Mr D.S. Mangat, DPI(S), was the chief guest. As many as 100 saplings of various trees were planted on the school premises.

The Coordination Committee of Central Government Pensioners Association has demanded the setting up of a dispensary in the city under the central government health scheme for the benefit of one lakh central government pensioners living in the northern region.top

Case registered
The police has registered a case under Section 366, IPC, against Vinod, a local resident, for eloping with Seema Devi on the complaint of her husband, Mr Sube Singh.
Power breakdown
Frequent power breakdowns have badly affected life of this town for the past three days. It has also affected water supply in different parts of the town. Residents have demanded normal power supply.

BSP's concern
Addressing the BSP workers at Jawahar Lal Nehru Park here on Sunday, Mr Aman Kumar Nagra, president of the Haryana BSP, expressed concern over the increasing acts of violence against Dalits and other weaker sections of society.

Case registered
The police has registered a case against Bhim Singh of Hanuman colony for allegedly firing shots at Rakesh during a quarrel here on Saturday. However, no one was injured.
Dowry complaint
The police has registered a case against seven members of a family of Bahadurgarh town in connection with a dowry complaint lodged by their daughter-in-law, Seema. She said that she was married to Ramesh in December, 1997, and alleged that her in-laws were harassing her for bringing more dowry from her parents.

Ad hoc teachers
A deputation of the Ad hoc Teachers Association, Haryana, submitted a charter of demands to Mr Ram Bilas Sharma, Education Minister, at PWD Rest House here on Sunday demanding the services of ad hoc teachers to be regularised.

Raid
Drug Inspectors conducted a surprise raid at a general store and a medical shop at Gohana and seized some contraband drugs on Saturday.
Convention
The Haryana State RMP Doctors Association will organise a state-level convention on September 10 at Gohana. The association will discuss problems faced by RMP doctors from officials of the Health Department and the police.
Annual mahotsava
The annual mahotsava of the Shri Krishan Adarsh Gaushala will be held on September 6 at Gohana.
