ABOHAR

Urged: Members of the Yuva Beopar Mandal submitted a memorandum to Dr Ram Kumar Goyal, BJP MLA, here on Saturday urging him not to allow the auction octroi check posts on October 28. The mandal will stage a dharna in front of the office of the Municipal Council on Monday.

GURDASPUR

Sanctioned: A sum of Rs 1.86 crore has been sanctioned for the implementation of the rural water supply scheme and Rs 1.68 crore for the urban development, Mr Balramji Dass Tandon, Minister for Local Bodies, Punjab, said here on Friday while presiding over a meeting of the District Planning Board.
Fire: A fire broke out in the local Satnam Rice Mills on Friday. Fire engines from Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Batala were rushed to the spot which took more than five hours to control. The Additional Deputy Commissioner and the SDM were present.
Viklang camp: The local Golden Public School and Satya Sai Samiti will hold a two-day "viklang" camp here from November 20, according to Mr Dina Nath Mahajan, Principal of the school. During the camp artificial limbs will be provided free of cost.

HOSHIARPUR

Arrested: The police has arrested Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Bassi Gulam Hussain village and registered a case under Section 171, 419 and 468, IPC, against him, Mr R.P. Mittal, SSP, said here on Saturday.
Market committee: The Punjab Government has nominated Mr Amarjit Singh Chohan as Chairman and Mr Sudhir Sub as Vice-Chairman of the local Market Committee.

LUDHIANA

Paddy procurement: Mr Arun Goel, Deputy Commissioner, has directed all SDMs to supervise paddy procurement in different mandis. Addressing a gathering at a sangat darshan at Sidhwan Bet on Friday, he said the government agencies would procure all paddy within one week.
14 arrested: The city police has arrested 14 persons in connection with various crimes, Mr Dinkar Gupta, SSP, said here on Saturday. With these arrests the police claims to have solved the double murder case at Focal Point.

MALERKOTLA

Song competition: A national group song competition was organised by the local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad on Sunday. DAV Senior Secondary School, Malerkotla, won the overall trophy in the senior and junior competitions. Mr Jaspal Singh Jassi, SDM, gave away the prizes.
Eye camp: As many as 100 operations were performed and 900 patients examined at a free eye check-up camp organised here by the S.S. Jain Sabha on Sunday.

MOGA

Burnt: A middle-aged woman of Baghapurana town was allegedly burnt to death at her residence on Saturday. The police has sent her body for a post-mortem examination.

Career conference: The District Employment Exchange, Patiala, has organised a career conference and exhibition at Government Senior Secondary School, Kalyan. Ms Surinder Kaur Arora, Joint Director, Department of Employment, Punjab, inaugurated the exhibition.

PHAGWARA

Demanded: A delegation of the Private Colleges Non-Teaching Employees Union submitted a memorandum to Mr Swarna Ram, Minister of State for Education, Punjab, here on Sunday. The union demanded the revision of pay scales on the basis of the Fourth Pay Commission.

Charge taken over: Mr S.P. Singh Khurana took over as Executive Officer of the local Municipal Council on Friday. He succeeded Mr Joginder Pal, who was transferred.
Case registered: The local police has registered a case under Section 109 of the Cr PC against five persons, including two women. They were arrested from the Muradpur locality and were produced in the court of the SDM, who later released them on bail.

Lecture: Dr R.P. Bajpai, Additional Director, CSIO, will deliver a lecture on instruments and materials for microelectronics and photonic devices in 2010 at IETE, Sector 30-B, on October 26 at 4.30 p.m., it was announced on Sunday.

Parishad branch: The 53rd branch of the Bharat Vikas Parishad has been opened at Raipur Rani near here. This was disclosed at the general body meeting of the local unit of the parishad held at Parishad Bhavan in Sector 12-A here on Sunday.
Vaccination camp: As many as 432 persons were vaccinated against Hepatitis-B at a subsidised camp organised by the Department of Social Service and Survey, IGSA, here on Sunday.

AMBALA

Cattle found dead: As many as six cows and a bull were found dead in Subzi Mandi in the cantonment on Saturday. The owners of the cattle suspect a foul play. The police was investigating the case.
Surprise check: Mr John V. George, DIG (Headquarters), Law and Order, Haryana, conducted a surprise check of police stations, police lines and the office of the Railway Police on Saturday in order to verify complaints of late-coming of police personnel. He also visited the Central Jail.

JIND

Six arrested: The police has arrested six persons on a charge of looting a scooterist. The police has registered a case under Sections 395 and 397 of the IPC against them.
Dewatering operation: Mr Tarun Bajaj, Deputy Commissioner, said here on Sunday that dewatering operations in flood-affected areas of this district had been intensified and flooded fields would be available for sowing of wheat and other crops before November 15. He said 593 cusecs of water was being drained out daily from the Jind and Safidon areas.

STD facility: The STD facility of this town which had paralysed on Thursday due to a snag between microwave towers of Mammur and Dharamsala was partly restored on Friday. The STD facility of Indora, Rehan and Jawali are still not working.

SOLAN

Lok Adalat: The District and Sessions Judge, Mr T.N. Vaidya, presided over the 516th Lok Adalat held here on Saturday. As many 174 out of 230 cases were solved at the adalat. A sum of Rs 9 lakh was awarded to accident victims.

SHIMLA

Presented: Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Thakur Gulab Singh presented a Himachali cap and a Kulu scarf to Mr Dough Kidd, Speaker of the House of Representatives of New Zealand, on Saturday. He called on Mr Kidd before returning here after attending the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.top
