ABOHAR

Telegraph office: Telegraph services remained paralysed here for the sixth consecutive day on Tuesday. The in charge said the fault had been brought to the notice of the telecom authorities.
Suicide: Rajesh Kumar, alias Kali, a local resident, committed suicide by consuming poison on Monday. In another case, Guddi, a resident of Maujgarh village, consumed poison on Saturday. She died in hospital on Monday.
Remand: Mrs Naseeb Kaur of Chak Kalatibba village was remanded in judicial custody by a local court on Monday. She was arrested by the Sadar police on the charge of allegedly forcing her daughter-in-law, Paramjit Kaur, to bring more dowry.
Arrested: The police arrested Satnam Singh of Pucca Seed Farm and Joginder Singh of Bazidpur Bhoma village under the Excise Act for allegedly carrying lahan and liquor.
Dharna: The municipal employees have called off their agitation on an assurance given by Mr Baburam Arya, President, Municipal Council, on Monday that arrears would be paid to them by October 16.
Died: Amarjit Singh, a kanoongo in the Revenue Department, who was injured in an accident last week, succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
Agitation: The Technical Services Union started a work-to-rule agitation on Monday for six days. Electricity supply was disrupted in many localities, including the commercial area.

BARNALA

Ambulance presented: Mr Surjit Singh Barnala, Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister, presented a Kribhko-sponsored ambulance vehicle to the Bhagat Mohan Lal Seva Samiti, Barnala, on Sunday at a function organised by the samiti at the local Ram Bagh complex.

FARIDKOT

Sangat darshan: Mr Gurinder Singh Grewal, Deputy Commissioner, organised a "sangat darshan" at Bhana village on Monday. Most of the problems were redressed on the spot. Mr Harchand Singh Sandhu, SSP, was also present on the occasion.

FAZILKA

Two killed: Two persons were killed and five injured in a road accident on the Fazilka-Malout road, near Tahliwala Bodla village, on Monday. The injured have been admitted to the local Civil Hospital.
Band competition: A Corps Band competition was held at the Military Station, Fazilka, on Monday. Eight selected teams of different units participated in the competition and displayed their performance. The Sikh Light Infantary Band team stood first, while the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantary Band and Gorkha Rifles won second and third positions, respectively.

Expelled: Mr Daya Singh Sodhi President, Punjab BJP, has expelled Mr Ravi Gupta, President, BJP unit of this district, from the party for his alleged anti-party activities.

Lok adalat: A provident fund Lok Adalat was held here on Monday under the chairmanship of Mr R. K. Kukreja, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Amritsar. Complaints from Phagwara and adjoining towns regarding settlement of the PF claims of employees were settled.

ROPAR

Ban: The District Magistrate has banned the manufacture, storage, sale and use of big fire crackers, known as bombs and rocket bombs, within the municipal limits of the district. The order will remain in force from October 15 to November 14.top

Appointed: Mr Shamsher Singh Rai, a former MLA and ex-Chairman of the Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation has been appointed Convener of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee's Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Cell by Capt Amarinder Singh, President of PPCC.
New posting: The Punjab Government has appointed Mr Rajdeep Singh Kamboj, Deputy Director, Sainik Welfare, Ropar as General Manager, Punjab Bhavan, Delhi, with immediate effect.

PANCHKULA

Urged: The Shivalik Vikas Manch has urged the Deputy Commissioner to involve representatives of different resident welfare associations in the inspection of roads, constructed by HUDA in the past two years, as announced by the administration.
Elected: Mr Tajinder Singh has been elected President of the Buraj Kotian Crusher Owners Association, Chandimandir.
Meeting: The district unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party will hold a mahapanchayat to listen to the grievances of residents of the Morni block at Chandrawal Kunj, Morni, on October 25.

AMBALA

Road accident: Mr Kailash Sahni, an employee of the Indian Oil Corporation, was killed in a road accident near the cantonment railway station on Sunday. A case has been registered.
Speed post: Round-the-clock booking of speed post articles has been started at the cantonment Railway Mail Service, Mr D.R. Sharma, Senior Postmaster, said here on Monday. He said the booking had also been started at the GPO, Sadar Bazar, Mahesh Nagar and Industrial Area in the cantonment.

FARIDABAD

Two arrested: The police arrested an Army deserter, Ajay Kumar and Nirmala, a married woman, on Sunday for allegedly attempting to murder her brother-in-law in Dabua Colony. Both of them have been remanded in judicial custody and sent to the Rohtak jail.
Lok adalat: The 15th Lok Adalat held here on Sunday awarded a compensation of Rs 5.85 lakh to nine victims of accidents under the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal. Mr K.C. Gupta, District and Sessions Judge, presided over the adalat. One matrimonial case has been settled amicably.
Murders: Kanwar Pal Sharma and Mustari Begum have been stabbed to death at Bamnikheda in Palwal. Two brothers of Kanwar Pal, Roshan and Tek Chand, have been arrested in this connection. In another case, Deshraj has allegedly murdered his brother, Gajraj, at Saharala village.

HISAR

Dharna: Members of the All-India Telecom Employees Union, Class III and the Line Staff, staged a dharna in front of Telephone Bhavan on Monday in protest against the indifferent attitude of the district General Manager, Telecom, towards the employees.top

BILASPUR

Urged: One mason and four beldars employed in the Soil Conservation Department at Ghumarwin have not been paid their salaries for the past four months. They have appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter.

DHARAMSALA

Arrested: The police has arrested the husband and the mother-in-law of Suman Lata (27), a resident of Bodha village near Palampur, who died of burns in the hospital on Monday.

SOLAN

Liquor seized: The local police seized 144 bottles of the IMFL and 3000 pouches of country liquor from a truck here on Sunday. The driver and the cleaner of the truck have been arrested . A case has been registered.
Dharna:
Activists of the CPI held a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioners office to protest against the "anti-people policies" of the state government.
