services remained paralysed here for the sixth
consecutive day on Tuesday. The in charge said
the fault had been brought to the notice of the
telecom authorities.
Suicide: Rajesh Kumar, alias Kali, a local
resident, committed suicide by consuming poison
on Monday. In another case, Guddi, a resident of
Maujgarh village, consumed poison on Saturday.
She died in hospital on Monday.
Remand: Mrs Naseeb Kaur of Chak Kalatibba
village was remanded in judicial custody by a
local court on Monday. She was arrested by the
Sadar police on the charge of allegedly forcing
her daughter-in-law, Paramjit Kaur, to bring more
dowry.
Arrested: The police arrested Satnam Singh
of Pucca Seed Farm and Joginder Singh of Bazidpur
Bhoma village under the Excise Act for allegedly
carrying lahan and liquor.
Dharna: The municipal employees have
called off their agitation on an assurance given
by Mr Baburam Arya, President, Municipal Council,
on Monday that arrears would be paid to them by
October 16.
Died: Amarjit Singh, a kanoongo in the
Revenue Department, who was injured in an
accident last week, succumbed to his injuries on
Monday.
Agitation: The Technical Services Union
started a work-to-rule agitation on Monday for
six days. Electricity supply was disrupted in
many localities, including the commercial area.

Ambulance
presented: Mr Surjit Singh Barnala,
Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister,
presented a Kribhko-sponsored ambulance vehicle
to the Bhagat Mohan Lal Seva Samiti, Barnala, on
Sunday at a function organised by the samiti at
the local Ram Bagh complex.

Sangat darshan:
Mr Gurinder Singh Grewal, Deputy
Commissioner, organised a "sangat
darshan" at Bhana village on Monday. Most of
the problems were redressed on the spot. Mr
Harchand Singh Sandhu, SSP, was also present on
the occasion.
FAZILKA
Two killed: Two
persons were killed and five injured in a road
accident on the Fazilka-Malout road, near
Tahliwala Bodla village, on Monday. The injured
have been admitted to the local Civil Hospital.
Band competition: A Corps Band competition
was held at the Military Station, Fazilka, on
Monday. Eight selected teams of different units
participated in the competition and displayed
their performance. The Sikh Light Infantary Band
team stood first, while the Jammu and Kashmir
Light Infantary Band and Gorkha Rifles won second
and third positions, respectively.

adalat: A provident fund Lok Adalat was
held here on Monday under the chairmanship of Mr
R. K. Kukreja, Regional Provident Fund
Commissioner, Amritsar. Complaints from Phagwara
and adjoining towns regarding settlement of the
PF claims of employees were settled.

Ban:
The District Magistrate has banned the
manufacture, storage, sale and use of big fire
crackers, known as bombs and rocket bombs, within
the municipal limits of the district. The order
will remain in force from October 15 to November
14.
