BATHINDA

Urged: The Punjab Government Pensioners Welfare Association has urged the state government to implement the recommendations of the Fourth Pay Commission without delay.
Vacant seats: The Medical Entrance Problems Redressal Forum in a press note issued here on Monday alleged that vacant MBBS seats in government and private medical colleges of the state would harm the career of students if not filled on time. Mr A.K Garg, Treasurer of the forum, said the government should start counselling for filling the seats.
Song competition: The Bharat Vikas Parishad organised a group song competition here on Monday. DAV College stood first in the senior group and Police Public School stood first in the junior group, according to Mr Vipan Bhargava, President of the parishad.

Four arrested: The district police claims to have busted a gang of thieves with the arrest of four members of the gang, according to Mr Iqbal Singh, SSP. The police has recovered two scooters, a cycle and a gas cylinder from them.
Annual day: The local Sainik School will organise its annual day and athletic meet on October 16 and 17, according to Principal of the school. Mrs Jagir Kaur Tourism Minister, Punjab and Mr Swarna Ram, Minister of State for Education, will preside over the function.
Welcome: Mr Gulzar Singh,a former minister, Mr Charan Singh, President, district Congress Committee, and five Dalit Municipal Councillors in a statement on Monday welcomed the nomination of Mr Jagjit Singh as leader of the LCP.

Gang busted: With the arrest of two persons the police claims to have busted a gang of thieves, according to Mr Arpit Shukla, SSP. The police has recovered stolen goods from their possession. A case has been registered against them.

Footpath workers: Members of the Footpath Workers Rozgar Bachao Samiti have urged the local administration to conduct a survey of all vendors and provide licences to them. A rally would be held by them on Tuesday, according to Mr RK Chandoliya, president of the samiti.
Chain fast: The chain fast by the Action Committee for the Development of Villages entered its fourth day on Monday. Villagers of Hallomajra were on fast today, according to Mr Chaman Lal, general secretary of the committee.
Appointed: The central council of the Institute of Public Auditors in India (IPAI) has appointed Mr Balvinder Singh, Accountant General (Audit) of Punjab, as the vice-president of the north west office of the IPAI. A press note issued here on Monday said that the main purpose of this body was to ensure the advancement of the disciplines of public auditing public finance, public sector accounting and to foster financial control and accountability.
Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Sector 8 House Holders Welfare Association: president-Mr Dalip Singh Sandhu; senior vice president-Mr Chandan Singh; general secretary-Mr Khajan Singh and treasurer-Mr Jagdish Kapur.
Nurseries' union: The Kitchen Garden and Nurseries Workers Union has threatened to launch an agitation if the demands of workers were not accepted by the authorities before October 16. In a press note issued here on Monday the president of the union, Mr Nirmal Singh, said the demands of the union included granting bonus of one month, issuance of official dress and granting of a minimum monthly salary of Rs 2520 to daily wage workers without any further delay.
Clay-modelling: As part of the children festival, the State Institute of Education organised a clay-modelling competition for primary and nursery school children. Sunil Kumar won the first prize for Class IV in the urban school category, Davinder Kumar won the first prize for Class V. In the rural category, Shamsher Singh won the first prize for Class IV. Dhanpati won the first prize for Class V.
Term extended: Shri Sanatan Dharam Hari Mandir Sabha, Sector 32-A, held its general body meeting here on Monday. The sabha unanimously decided to extend the term of the office-bearers for one year and authorised the executive to replace office-bearers any time.

PANCHKULA

Run over: A pedestrian, Om Parkash, died after he was hit by a truck near Saket Hospital, Chandimandir, near here on Sunday. The deceased was a resident of Bir Ghaggar village in Chandimandir. According to the information available the truck driver, Mahipal, fled from the scene of accident. The police has registered a case.
Theft : Ropal Singh, a resident of Sector 40 in Chandigarh in a complaint lodged with the police said his scooter (PB-16-0387) was stolen from Topiary Park in Sector 6 here on Tuesday last. The police has registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC.
Scooterist killed: Joginder Singh (47), a forklift driver in the Machine Tool Division of HMT, Pinjore, died on the spot while his wife escaped with minor injuries when their scooter was hit by a maxicab at Ramgarh near here today. According to information available the deceased was returning from Shehzadpur when the mishap took place. The police has registered a case against the cab driver.
Electrocuted: Tara Singh, a resident of Mot Tikri village in Barwala was electrocuted at his tubewell in his field in the village here on Monday.

AMBALA

Four arrested: The police has arrested Tarsem, Naresh Pal, Balwinder and Charanjit on the charge of plotting to commit a dacoity. A case has been registered against them under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC. However, Desa, one of their accomplices, managed to escape.

BHIWANI

Call: The Haryana Pragtivadi Yuva Parishad will organise a dharna at Pandit Neki Ram Chowk on October 25 in protest against the failure of the Municipal Council and the administration to keep sanitation, according to Mr Shankar Das Sharma, president of the parishad.

SIRSA

Ban: Mr Arun Gupta, Additional District Magistrate, Sirsa, has banned the storage of crackers and explosive material in congested areas of this district. He also directed that shopkeepers would have to obtain a licence for selling the crackers.
IGNOU centre: Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, has started its study centre at Guru Hari Singh College in Sri Jeewan Nagar in this district, Mr V.K. Sabarwal, Principal of college, said here on Monday.
Injured: Mrs Sugni Devi (65), a resident of Banwala village, was injured seriously when she was going to Bodiwali village alongwith her family members in a jeep and was hit by a truck near here on Sunday. The police has arrested the driver of the truck.

Hunt: The police has launched a hunt to apprehend a youth of Mohana village who had made an attempt to molest a minor girl of the same village.top
