Basic amenties: Resenitment prevails among residents here over lack of basic amenities like sanitation, light and drainage. Municipal authorities when contacted expressed helplessness due to lack of funds.

GURDASPUR

Sangat darshan: Mr S.K. Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner, held a "sangat darshan" at Maddi village under Dhar subdivision on Sunday. The Deputy Commissioner redressed as many as 50 complaints.

KAPURTHALA

NCC camp: A 10-day NCC camp organised by 21st Battalion of the NCC concluded at Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia Government College here on Friday. As many as 500 cadets participated in the camp.

KHARAR

Killed: Mr Sant Pal Singh was killed when he was knocked down by a Punjab Roadways bus here on Friday. The police has registered a case under Sections 279 and 304-A, IPC, against the driver of the bus, Prem Singh.

LUDHIANA

Jor mela: The annual Jor Mela, in memory of Baba Sidh Bhander, was held at Roshiana village on Saturday. Mr Narinder Singh, Community Health Minister, was the chief guest. He said the government had allocated Rs 1000 crore for providing drinking water in villages.

NAWANSHAHR

Paddy procurement: Mr P. Ram, Secretary, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Punjab, on Saturday visited mandis at Nawanshahr, Banga and Behram to monitor the progress of the paddy procurement and to hear grievances of farmers, traders and officials of the purchasing agencies.

PATHANKOT

Camp: A blood donation camp was organised at the local Civil Hospital with the cooperation of S.D. College on Friday. As many as 24 persons donated blood.
Meeting: A joint meeting of the civil administration, local social organisations and political parties was held at Council Hall on Friday. Mr S.K. Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur, and Mr Gaurav Yadav, SSP, heard the problems of the residents.

Blood donation: A blood donation camp was organised by 41 Armoured Regiment here on Saturday. As many as 101 units of blood were collected.top

Design award: Mr Surinder Bahga, a local architect bagged the award at a national level Limited Landscape Design Competition organised for the Export Promotion Industrial Park to be set up at Noida by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation. The corporation had received entries from 50 firms, out of which Mr Bahga's proposal was selected for the award and engaged for consultancy for the prestigious project, a press note released here on Sunday by the Saaraar Foundation said.
Divali mela: A three-day Lions Diwali Mela organised by the Lions Club Chandigarh (Host) ended in the Sector 34 mela ground here on Sunday. A spokesman of the club said 3000 students participated in various competitions organised during the mela.
Elected: The following have been elected to the governing council of the Sector 40, MIG II Welfare Association: president — Mr R.S. Kaushal; vice-president — Mr J.S. Jaspal; general secretary — Mr V.P. Ahuja and treasurer — Mr Sardul Singh.top

AMBALA

Cyclist killed: Gurdass, a cyclist, was killed and his wife injured in a road accident near the Model Town crossing on the G.T. road on Friday. A case has been registered.

GURGAON

Recovered: The Sohna police has recovered 3,631 bottles of English wine from a four-wheeler near Sohna. Three persons have been arrested under the Excise Act.
FIR lodged: The Bilaspur police has lodged an FIR against Dharam K. Swami for Madhya Pradesh for allegedly kidnapping Gaurav (4) of Bohra Khurd village.

HISAR

Workshop: The Haryana State Remote Sensing Application Centre will organise one-day regional workshop on satellite data products at Haryana Agriculture University on Monday, according to Dr S. Mohan, Chief Scientist.
Ban: The District Magistrate, Mr P.C. Bidhan, has banned the sale of fireworks in congested areas of the town and other places in the district in view of the Divali.
Bodies found: The bodies of Mahabir, an Army jawan of Badana village, and Rampal an electrician working in the MES, were found in mysterious circumstances in the cantonment area here on Saturday. The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination in the local Civil Hospital

Complex inaugurated: Mr S.K. Sethi, DGP, Haryana, inaugurated the police station-cum-residential complex at Jatusana on Friday. The complex has been constructed at a cost of Rs 90 lakh.
Book fair: The Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Rajnmi Sekhri Sibal, inaugurated a book fair at Bal Bhavan here on Saturday. The fair will continue till Monday.

SONEPAT

Attacked: Mr Jagdish Tyagi, a correspondent of a Hindi daily, and his wife, Mrs Raj Bala, were injured in an attack on Friday. The police has registered a case under Sections 148, 149, 323, 452 and 506 of the IPC.

YAMUNANAGAR

Function: The Nursing Home Association organised a function here on Saturday. Dr P.N. Ranjen, a senior consultant in the Department of Neurology in Apollo Hospital, said incident of paralytic stroke had increased in India. He said smoking was one of the main causes of the disease.top

Contest: The ABVP will organise general knowledge contests throughout the state for students of class X, XI and XII at district centres on October 18, according to Mr Parivesh, district chief. He said prizes would be given on Vivekanand Jayanti on January 12.
