Urged: A delegation of the Amritsar Vikas Manch met Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, State Union Minister for Industries, here on Wednesday and urged him to introduce more international flights from Rajasansi Airport.

GURDASPUR

Seven arrested: The Kahnuwan police in a special drive has arrested seven persons and seized illicit liquor in various raids from them, according to Mr Jaswant Singh Cheema, DSP, (Rural). The police has registered cases against them.

HOSHIARPUR

Interview extended: The interview for the selection of multipurpose workers in the Multipurpose Workers Female Training School, Hoshiarpur, has been extended from October 15 to 27 of this month, Mr S.R Gupta, Civil Surgeon, said here on Thursday.
Fire: A fire broke out in Kamal Marriage Palace at New Hari Nagar here on Wednesday. The fire brigade took more than two hours to control the fire.

JALANDHAR

Telephone adalat: The 16th telephone adalat of Jalandhar telecom district was held here in the office of the General Manager telecom on Wednesday. In these adalats 727 cases have been settled so far.

LUDHIANA

Rally: As part of the Jan Jagran Abhiyan, a rally was organised by the Janata Dal at Pakhowal village on Tuesday. Corruption in various government departments was the main issue of the rally.
Meeting: The Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings organised a meeting with the Municipal Commissioner here on Tuesday. The association highlighted problems relating to sanitation, bad roads and encroachment on industrial sites.

NAWANSHAHR

Memorandum: The district unit of the Shiv Sena ( Bal Thackeray) submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday over the "anti-trader policies" of the State Government.

PATIALA

Criticised: The Punjab Medical Officers and the Para-Medical Staff Association criticised the Government for non-implementation of the recommendations of the Fourth Pay Commission with regard to doctors in the state.

PHAGWARA

Power theft: A new method of power theft which slows down the meter has been detected by the PSEB during raids in rural areas of this division, Mr U.C. Saroa, Senior Executive Engineer, Phagwara division, said here on Tuesday. He said a drive had been launched to detect theft of electricity.
Chetna march: The Indian Minorities and Dalit Front will organise a two-day chetna march from Amritsar to Chandigarh on October 16, according to Mr Bhagat Singh Bhungarni, General Secretary, of the front on Thursday.

GURGAON

Robbed: Three armed men stopped a Maruti car on the national highway here on Wednesday and looted Rs 2.5 lakh from employees of a factory who had withdrawn the money from a bank.

HISAR

One Killed: Ram Pal was killed and three others were injured in a road accident near Jhumpa village on Thursday. They were returning from Salasar in Rajasthan.
Injured: Murti (65) was injured on Wednesday when a gun went off accidentally at Siswal village. She has been admitted to Medical College, Rohtak.

KURUKSHETRA

Roads recarpeted: Amin Road and the Paras Road were recarpeted at a cost of Rs 2.25 lakh, according to the Deputy Commissioner. He said the local Harshwardhan Park had also been beautified by the Municipal Committee at a cost of Rs 25,000.

NARNAUL

Bar association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the District Bar Association: president — Mr Kailash Chand Kaushik; vice-president — Mr Narender Singh Yadav; general secretary — Mr Hoshiar Singh Yadav and treasurer — Mr Ram Kumar Yadav.

SONEPAT

Protest: Residents of Murthal and nearby villages held a protest on Wednesday against the irregular supply of electricity and urged the State Government to take action against officials of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Board responsible for the on-going crisis in the area.
Rain water: The Irrigation Department has installed pumping sets to drain off rain water from villages which had been affected during rains. Mr M.K. Lamba, Executive Engineer of the Rai Water Service Division, visited the villages and discussed the situation with the affected farmers.

Meeting: Mango saplings and other plants have been planted on 3700 hectares of land in this district, the Deputy Commissioner said here on Wednesday, while presiding at a meeting of district officers.

KANGRA

Suicide: Kamla Devi ( 35), a resident of Peersooie village committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

SOLAN

Two arrested: Ruby Thakur and Suresh, alias Mintoo, were arrested outside the District Courts here on Wednesday on the charge of allegedly gang raping a minor girl. According to Mr Mohan Lal Negi, SP, with the arrest of the two, the police had succeeded in arresting five of the six persons involved in the case.top
