AMRITSAR
Old-age pension:
The State Government has allocated Rs 14 crore for disbursing old-age pension in this district. The Deputy Commissioner gave this information while addressing a Lok Darbar in the border village of Raja Sansi area here on Sunday. He said cases relating to pension would be finalised within the next 10 days.
Endoscopy camp:
The eighth endoscopy camp for the treatment of infertility and other women's diseases will be held at the Test Tube Baby Centre here on October 13 to 15. A team of doctors comprising Dr Rakesh Sinha of Mumbai and Dr Sharda Adlakha of Amritsar will perform the operations.

FARIDKOT
Campaign:
The Punjab Brahmin Sabha has decided to launch a special statewide campaign next month to eradicate social evils, such as drug abuse and dowry. Mr Shanti Swaroop, president, state unit, said this while speaking at a state-level function of the samaj held at Kotkapura on Sunday.

FATEHGARH SAHIB
Pensions sanctioned:
The Punjab Government has sanctioned old-age and widow pensions to 6 lakh persons in just one year and a half, Mr Harmel Singh Tohra, Minister for PWD, said while addressing a rural gathering at Tibbi village on Sunday. Earlier he inaugurated a school building constructed by the villagers at a cost of Rs 3.50 lakh.

FEROZEPORE
Function:
Mr Zora Singh Mann, MP, presided over a function organised by the Lions Club here on Saturday to honour students of this town who had cleared the PMT and the CET examination in their first attempt this year.

LUDHIANA
Training camp:
A three-day training camp of the Punjab State Employees Union Concluded at Alamgir on Sunday. The Minister of Youth Services and Social Welfare. Mr Gobind Singh Kanjhla, and the Education Minister, Mr Tota Singh, were present on the occasion.

MALERKOTLA
Medical camp:
As many as 600 women patients were examined at a check-up camp organised by the Malerkotla Hindu Charitable Trust here on Sunday. The medicines were distributed free of cost to the patients.
Shortage:
The town has been facing an acute shortage of cooking gas of the Hindustan Petroleum for the past two weeks. One of the distributors even confirmed the shortage and said the shortage would continue for more days. Residents allege that gas cylinder has been available at a premium of Rs 250.

FAZILKA
Two killed:
Two persons were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the Fazilka-Ferozepore on Sunday. The police has registered a case.

PATHANKOT
Cycle rally:
To educate the people about addiction and keeping the town pollution-free, a cycle rally was organised here on Monday by the Saraswat Club and the Durga Jyoti Manav Kalyan Samiti. As many as 200 school children participated in the rally. The Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur, flagged off the rally

PANCHKULA
Scooterist killed: Joginder Singh (47), a forklift driver in the Machine Tool Division of HMT, Pinjore, died on the spot while his wife escaped with minor injuries when their scooter was hit by a maxicab at Ramgarh near here today. According to information available the deceased was returning from Shehzadpur when the mishap took place. The police has registered a case against the cab driver. Meanwhile, about 40 persons received minor injuries when a trolley in which they were travelling overturned at Rampur Sheori near Surajpur late this evening. Five persons, including one who was critical, have been admitted to the PGI, Chandigarh. The police said the passengers in the trolley were returning after paying condolences at the residence of the HMT employee at Pinjore who today died in the road accident at Ramgarh.

Electrocuted: Tara Singh, a resident of Mot Tikri village in Barwala was electrocuted at his tubewell in his field in the village here on Monday.

KAITHAL
Seized:
The police seized poppy husk worth Rs 6 lakh from Balwinder Singh of Lalpura village in Guhla tehsil on Sunday. According to Mr Sudhir Choudhry, SP, the police raided his residence and recovered 30 bags of poppy husk concealed in a bunker. A case has been registered against him.

ROHTAK
Private plots:
The Jhajjar district administration has directed all private vacant plot holders in the district to clear their plots of wild growth and filth, failing which action would be taken against them, Mr Arun Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, said on Saturday. He also directed that all light points within municipal area be repaired before Diwali.

SIRSA
Elected: Mr Mohinder Jain and Naresh were elected president and secretary, respectively, of the Mandi Association, Kalanwali, in its elections held on Sunday.
Five killed:
Five persons were killed in a road mishap on Sunday. All victims belonged to Mandi Dabwali and were returning in a jeep after attending a condolence meeting at Ganganagar.
Seized:
The local police arrested Sukhdev Singh Bajigar and Suman Singh Rai and seized 190 kg of poppy husk from them near Vaidwala village on Monday. The police has registered a case.

SONEPAT
One killed:
One person was killed on the spot and six others were injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the Gohana-Panipat road on Sunday. The police has registered a case.
Resentment:
Resentment prevails among traders of this city against corruption in the goods office of the railway station. The Traders Welfare Association has demanded a probe into the corruption among staff.
Shopkeeper arrested:
The police here has arrested Satish Mittal, a shopkeeper, on the charge of selling adulterated ghee. A case of cheating and violation of the Essential Commodities Act has been registered against him.
Office-bearers:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Haryana State Science Teachers Sangathan: Chairman — Mr Puran Mal Mor (Sonepat); president — Mr Devinder Gautam (Ambala); general secretary — Mr Devinder Paul (Sonepat); and Treasurer — Mr Bharatendu Lal (Yamunanagar).
Insurance scheme:
The Saravjatiya Vikas Manch has decided to launch an insurance scheme for the rickshaw pullers in this city, according to Mr Surinder Sharma, President, of the manch.

YAMUNANAGAR
Strike call:
The Haryana Rajkiya Adhyapak Sangh will organise fast in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday in support of its demands which include non-payment of salaries.
