Auction
The octroi posts of the Bathinda Municipal Council were auctioned for Rs 2.82 crore here on Wednesday. The auction was held under the supervision of Mr G K Singh, Deputy Director, Local Government, Ferozepore.

KHANNA

Four held
The local police claimed to have arrested four persons and recovered stolen goods from them. The police has registered a case against them.

LUDHIANA

Ban
A ban has been imposed by the district administration on the manufacture, storage, sale and use of crackers in areas other than those identified by the administration. The administration has also banned locally made crackers.

MALERKOTLA

Elected
Mr Joginder Singh Aulakh was unanimously elected president of the Gazetted Educational School Services Association, Punjab. However, the general body of the association also changed the name of the association to the Government School Officers Association, Punjab.

MOGA

Purse found
A lady purse containing cash and documents was found in a bus of the Moga Depot of the Punjab Roadways on Sunday. The conductor of the bus handed over the purse to the General Manager of the roadways at Moga.
Threatened
Irked over bad roads, shortage of drinking water and cattle menace, the Punjab Desham, a non-political organisation, has threatened to launch an agitation from next month to seek the resignations of Nagar Council members.

PATIALA

Medical camp
The local Mid-Town unit of the Homoeopathic Medical Association of India organised a three-day free medical camp at Kali Devi Temple here which concluded on Tuesday. As many as 1000 patients were examined in the camp.
Celebrated
Modern Senior Secondary School here celebrated World Elder's Day by organising a grandparents meet on Tuesday in association with HelpAge India. Mr Bhavneshwar Sharma, Executive Officer, HelpAge India, highlighted activities of the society.
Camp
The local Lions Club (Central) in collaboration with the State Bank of Patiala, Rajindra Hospital branch, will organise a free orthopaedic camp at Community Centre, Tripuri, on Friday, according to the president of the club.
Elected
The following have been elected office-bearers of the local Lions Club (Premier): president — Dr Vijay Singla; secretary — Mr Sham Lal Singla; and treasurer — Mr Raj Kumar Gupta.

Demanded
A meeting of the local Senior Citizen Council was held on Thursday. Members demanded the setting up of the central welfare board for the aged.

PHILLAUR

Suicide
Paramjit Kaur allegedly committed suicide by sprinkling kerosene oil on her clothes at Rurkakalan village on Wednesday. According to the police, poverty was the cause of her death.

Cell for elderly
State Bank of India on Thursday opened a cell for senior citizens at its local branch in Sector 8 here. Mr R.C. Agarawala, General Manager of the SBI, who inaugurated the cell said it would provide banking facilities exclusively for senior citizens.

FATEHABAD

Blood donation
A blood donation camp was organised at Government College for Girls on Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner was the chief guest. The district Red Cross, and the Rotract Club (Mid-Town) sponsored the camp.
Three arrested
The police has arrested three women involved in illicit trafficking of liquor. The arrested women were residents of Piranwali village in Hisar district, according to Mr Rajbir Deswal, SP.

GURGAON

Convicted
Five persons, including three brothers, residents of Notki village, have been convicted by the Additional Sessions Judge on the charge of murdering Rehmat of the same village about three years ago.
Raped
A married woman was allegedly raped at Rawali village in Mewat by Shaukat of the same village on Wednesday. The victim belonged to the backward class. The accused has absconded.
Car snatched
Four miscreants took away car at a gunpoint from Baldev Raj, a resident of Sirohi village on Wednesday.

HISAR

Blood donation
A blood donation camp was organised at Guru Jambeshwar University, Hisar. The Vice-Chancellor Prof K.L. Johar lauded the donors, particularly the girls who in large number came forward to donate blood.
Rain water
Mr P.C. Sidhan, Deputy Commissioner, said here on Thursday that the rain water had flooded over 13,000 acres of land of 28 villages in Hansi subdivision of this district. He has directed officers to conduct surveys to assess the losses.
Dharna
Members of the Patwar Canal Association held a dharna on Wednesday in front of the office of the Superintending Engineer in Canal Colony here in support of their demands which include better pay-scales.

KURUKSHETRA

Physics seminar
As many as 500 scientists from all over the country will participate in a national seminar on solid state physics to be organised at Kurukshetra University in December. According to a university spokesman the seminar will be organised in collaboration with the Department of Atomic Energy and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

PANIPAT

Camp
The Lions Club, Samalkha, organised a blood donation camp at Samalkha on Wednesday.The secretary of the district Red Cross Society, Panipat, inaugurated the camp. As many as 56 persons donated blood.
Open darbar
A block-level open darbar was held at Mahadev Colony here on Wednesday.As many as 145 complaints were received in the darbar. The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to take immediate action.

YAMUNANAGAR

Science congress
The local DAV Senior Secondary School organised the district Children Science Congress on Wednesday. As many as 80 students from 20 schools participated.
